Queen Latifah (real name Dana Owens) tantalized "The View" fans with hints that she has begun the process of adopting a child. Co-host Barbara Walters put her on the spot, asking directly if she was serious about adopting. Latifah responded, "I'm actually kind of working on that."
The Queen has a remarkably successful track record of keeping her personal life quiet, so as far as anyone knows, she plans to raise the child alone. Adoptive single motherhood is becoming more common in Hollywood, as celebrity women opt to include children in their lives regardless of their marital status. Here are a few more single ladies who've adopted recently.
Sandy and Louie
The year Sandra Bullock adopted her tiny sweetie, Louis Bardo, was a rollercoaster ride for the "Blind Side" star. She won a Best Actress Oscar for portrayal of supportive suburban mom Leigh Anne Tuohy whose family adopts a black teenager with mad athletic skills.
Then 10 days later she split from husband Jesse James amid rumors he had cheated on her. Though the two originally planned to adopt the baby together, Bullock decided to move forward with the adoption on her own.
Charlie and Jack
At 8 the star composed a letter to her mother imploring her to, "take me to an orphanage, so that I can go and adopt a baby."
Denise and Ellie
It's an all girls club at Denise Richards' house. Last June she added a third little lady to her brood via adoption. Eloise Joni Richards was named after Denise's mom, Joni, who succumbed to cancer in 2007.
The baby's first name was chosen by sisters, Sami and Lola, whose father is Charlie Sheen. The new mom's joy shown in a statement to Access Hollywood. "Denise and Eloise's big sisters couldn't be happier and feel incredibly blessed. "
