Project Runway designers are already dreaming up Inaugural Ball looks for Michelle Obama!
In the tradition of
Runway,
Daily Beast editors challenged the reality show designers to create the First Lady's dress using Laura Bush's 2005 Oscar de la Renta gown, an American Flag, burlap potato sacks and $10 worth of trim.
See photos of every First Lady in history. Then Barneys New York creative director Simon Doonan and political consultant/author of
Casual Power, Sherry Maysonave, weighed in.
Look back at Michelle's chic style on the campaign trail.Season one winner Jay McCarroll turned his burlap sack and American flag into a fitted cocktail dress.
"God bless America, b--tches!" he explains of his look. "We need to live within our means and get back to basics."
Leanne Marshall, who won the most recent season, created a flowing gown featuring "a dramatic collar...trimmed out with just enough sparkle and layer," a belt cut from Bush's dress and "50 horizontally paneled potato sacks," she explains.
As for the American flag?
Marshall used it to line the frock because "I hear potato sack is a little itchy to the skin," she says.
