Prince William Takes Flight for Search and Rescue Duty in Falklands

Prince William is flying high in the Falklands.

Leaving wife Kate Middleton at home, the royal newlywed took to the skies Saturday for his first sortie mission as a Royal Air Force search-and-rescue pilot.

Taking control of a Sea King helicopter, William, 29, went through a series of pre-flight checks before lifting off for his first tour of the Falklands. Prior to takeoff, William spent much of his first official shift on duty analyzing the day's flying conditions with his four-man crew.

William's recent deployment has caused controversy among those living in the South American islands, especially after new tensions rose between Great Britain and Argentina, who warred over the land in 1982.

"I think it is an aggressive move to send [Prince William]…His presence will be regarded as a challenge," one Argentinian told the London Times. "After 30 years, I still do not believe these islands are British."

William is set to spend six weeks in the Falklands -- his longest time away from Middleton since they wed on April 29, 2011.

Her name is no longer Kate Middleton. She is married to Prince William. Her name is now Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, or HRH Catherine, or if you want to push it Duchess Kate. I recognize that many a woman nowadays does not take her husband's name, but Catherine has, and that should be honored. I repeatedly see omg! and Yahoo post articles referring to Catherine as Kate Middleton, and find it incredibly insulting to the woman they are supposed to be honoring by their coverage.

Does omg! and Yahoo think its readership so daft that we cannot follow along, and would be confused by referring to her by her now proper name? What's confusing is not seeing her proper name, and thinking I must have come across a pre-wedding article by mistake. Have some respect!

All service men go whereever they get sent. Seems like Prince William is taking his rescuing responsibility seriously while his wife is now embarking on public engagement san her husband. Good for the both of them, although, they have been great with public engagements working as a team as well. It's nice to see that they are in sync with one another.
