This week on "The Bachelor," some of these mean girls showed their true colors when Shawntel Newton showed up to compete for Ben's heart.
After Ashley's season, Shawntel (the funeral director from Brad's season) became smitten with Ben Flajnik. Upon learning that he had been chosen to become the next "Bachelor," she chose to drive across California to pursue the matter before it was too late.
While it's understandable that some of the women would feel upset or threatened, they didn't have to resort to such vitriolic attacks! They called a "b." "dumpster trash," and "uglier in person."
One contestant also felt that Shawntel didn't have a right to be there because she was "Brad's leftovers." Funny, these ladies don't seem to have a problem dating "Ashley's leftovers."
Under normal circumstances, Ben and Shawntel might have made a good match, but in the end, he sent her home because he felt that it wouldn't be fair to the other girls. (They were really putting the pressure on him to give Shawntel the boot)!
Shawntel made a good point that "fair" didn't matter when it came to love. On the other hand, if Ben had really been into her, he would have kept her around. Better yet, he would have pursued a relationship with her instead of signing on to become the next "Bachelor."
In any case, Shawntel (like Jennifer Love Hewitt) is probably better off. Who wants to jump through a bunch of hoops and deal with a house full of mean girls just to get engaged to someone you'll break up with in two months anyway?
Courtney seems to be the meanest of the mean girls, calling Shawntel "what's her butt" and gloating "see ya" to her on the way out. On the other hand, you have to hand it to Courtney. At least she is mean to your face (as well as behind your back)!
In other news, Emily had the "extreme" date of the week, having to conquer her fear of heights in order to climb Bay Bridge.
Here we insert "Bachelor" cliche about relationships also involve conquering fears before you can experience the thrills. Insert another metaphor about the bridge symbolized bringing two different people together.
The other one-on-one date went to Brittney, but she decided to leave because her heart wasn't in it. Looks like her grandma was more into Ben than she was!
Ben ended up giving Brittney's time to Lindzi who not only made a great first impression, but she is also making a lasting impression.
At the rose ceremony, Ben chose not to hand out that final rose, sending Erika, Jaclyn, and Shawntel packing. Had Erika not fainted under duress during that ceremony, it's possible that Ben would have given Shawntel a chance. We'll never know.
