Indian police announced Wednesday that they've found no evidence the father of 9-year-old Rubina Ali -- who starred in Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire -- put his daughter up for sale.

Police opened an investigation following a complaint by Khurshid Begum, Ali's estranged mother, after UK's News of the World reported the father wanted to sell her to a Middle-Eastern sheik for up to $400,000.

But police said they found nothing to back claims that the father, Rafiq Qureshi, planned on putting his daughter up for adoption.

"We have interrogated Rubina's father at length and have not found any evidence against him indicating that he was trying to sell Rubina," senior police officer Nishar Tamboli told the Associated Press.

Look back at celeb scandals.

The investigation is still ongoing.

"We've got nothing out of this film," Qureshi reportedly told undercover reporters from the paper. "I have to consider what's best for me, my family and Rubina's future."

Qureshi denied saying that, insisting he'd been lured to an upscale Mumbai hotel by somebody claiming they were moved by his daughter's story, and wanted to help get her out of the slums.

The directors did purchase a home for the kids. And invested in their education, not to mention their future. When the kids turn 16, they'll have money that they earned from the movie.

With all the money this movie made, I think the directors should have purchased a home for these kids out of that hell hole they call home. What good is a trust fund when you live in a sewer, these kids need that money now.
