NBC has ordered a remake of the 1960s drama Ironside, TVGuide.com has learned. This time around, Blair Underwood will star in the role made famous by Raymond Burr, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The pilot tells the story of a tough, sexy but acerbic police detective who uses a wheelchair after being shot. But he is hardly limited by his disability, as he pushes and prods his hand-picked team to solve the most difficult cases in the city.
The hourlong drama comes from Michael Caleo, who will write and executive-produce along with David Semel, Teri Weinberg, John Davis and Jon Fox. Universal TV, David Entertainment and Yellow Brick Road will produce.

The news comes one day after Semel's other pilot, Intelligence, was picked up by CBS.
The original series ran on NBC from 1967 to 1975. Underwood's past credits include The Event, In Treatment, Sex and the City and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
