Patrick Swayze's Widow Supports 'Dirty Dancing' Reboot

While some "Dirty Dancing" fans can't fathom the idea of Johnny and Baby as anyone other than the late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, Lisa Niemi (Patrick's widow) has given her seal of approval to the newly-announced reboot.

"Jennifer [Grey] and I have been talking and she's been so supportive, as has Lisa Swayze and [producer] Eleanor Bernstein," Kenny Ortega - who choreographed the original 1987 film and will direct the reboot - told Us Weekly at Wednesday's "So You Think You Can Dance" finale in Los Angeles. "I couldn't be more thankful for the outreach that has happened from the cast and crew members from the original movie. They've all said 'Go, Ken!'"

While Kenny is excited about giving the film a modern touch, he admits it will be a challenge to find actors who can bring the characters to life as well as their beloved predecessors.

"Patrick and Jennifer brought so much, and the chemistry that they had with each other -- I just want to find that match," he told the mag.

As for a possible cameo by Jennifer Grey, Kenny said it's being considered.

"If it's organic, right and makes sense," Kenny said, when asked if the original Baby and recent "Dancing with the Stars" champ would be seen in the new film. "I would love nothing more."

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com , Jennifer took to Twitter on Monday to express her excitement over the "Dirty Dancing" movie news.

"I love @Kennyortega and trust that he will do something special #DirtyDancingRemake," Jennifer Tweeted on Monday night.

"Blown away by all of the love expressed for #DirtyDancing. Makes me want to see it again. So grateful to have been a part of it," she later added.

His wife would say OK because she stands to make more moeny, it is utterly stupid, no one can ever remake that classic, live it alone, kenny ortega is in it only for the money, the original was the best there is, the public tells this DA!!!!! not to remake it and he still wants to do it. We will boycot his movie, if he remakes it, trust me billions will boycot it. Total lack of respect !!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and what's the next ionic classic movie that they plan on remaking? Could another
Casablance, Gone With The Wind, It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, High Noon, etc
be next. I read that a new version of The Wizard of Oz is planned. Why? The writers are
running out of ideas. Plus now with all their new technology like 3D they think they can
take a classic and do it better. Sadly, they will find an audience. Most people under the
age of 21 barely know any of these classics and they're willing to shell out anywhere from
nine to 15 dollars for a movie ticket depending on what city you live in.It's greed and it's
      disgusting.

Lisa and Jennifer are being supportive because of their friendship with Kenny Ortega. If
he weren't the director I think their feelings about the reboot would be the same as the fans.
Leave this project alone. Don't fix what isn't broken. The original was perfect and should
never be remade. If it does get made, I hope it flops.

This is horrible. I cannot believe someone would want to remake a movie that is amazing as is. I think it is a huge disrespect to Patrick, even though his widow approves. With a teeny bopper cast who has nowhere near the depth of Patrick's acting, and with the story being completely toyed with - no grinding, no sex, no illegal and almost deadly abortion... it wont be Dirty Dancing, it'll be a whole other movie, especially with the new music and dance numbers they say will be added.

NO WAY !!!!!! PERIOD !!!!! END OF STORY !!!!! IT'S BAD ENOUGH THAT THEY REMADE 'TRUE GRIT' & 'WIZARD OF OZ'.

this is one Dirty Dancing fan who will not be attending the remake nor purchasing it on DVD, i truly believe there are some classics that should not be toyed with/remixed/remade. I know i am not the only one that feels this way and not just from the 40 something generation, my daughter and her friends who are 18ish are furious and have stated they cannot fathom how anyone could consider doing anything that may tarnish the "Phabulous" of the original. Songs, dancing and cast intact, it is as perfect as it could ever be now, if its not broke, please dont try to "fix" it....

No one will ever replace Patrick Swaywze in Dirty Dancing. The younger set will probably go but not the people who saw the 1st one.
