Our Day With David Cook - From 'Idol' To Access

Access Hollywood - May 22, 2008 3:12 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- David Cook has barely slept.

The 25-year-old has spent the hours since his "American Idol" crowning, doing press and attempting to slip into cat naps in the car as he rushes from appointments to interviews. From sleep to singing, Access Hollywood was with the spiky-haired rocker during his first day as the "American Idol."

It wasn't even 5 AM Los Angeles time today, when Access first caught up with the "Idol" winner and he had already spoken to dozens of media outlets from across the country.

"Have you slept at all?" Access Hollywood's Laura Saltman asked.

"Not at all," he said with coffee in hand. "Bring it on."

Three hours later, as daylight appeared, the interviews continued and a tired David was still going strong. And 17-year-old runner-up, David Archuleta was still singing Cook's praises.

"Cook's just totally awesome," the teenager told Access. "I'm just really glad [he won]."

As the day continued, Cook stopped at our Access Hollywood stage where, still wearing the same clothes he wore during his "Idol" win, he told Nancy O'Dell he was running on pure adrenaline.

"I've gotten absolutely zero hours of sleep," Cook said. "I just haven't been able to shut the brain off. It's a celebration."

"Has reality set in?" Nancy asked referring to the nearly 32 million people who watched his crowning moment?

"To go from 103,000 to one is pretty absurd to think about," Cook replied. "Has reality set in? No, and I hope it doesn't."

"After winning 'American Idol,' what does the future look like for David Cook?" Nancy asked.

"I think the future is whatever I'm willing to make it," he said. "I want to put out a record right now that will make the hair on the back of my neck stand up."

And Nancy also asked about one the commercial highlights of the "Idol" evening - seeing Cook in a pink button down and white tube socks as he channeled Tom Cruise in "Risky Business" for a video game ad.

"You've got some nice legs there," Nancy noted.

"Thank you very much," Cook said. "It's amazing what a spray-on tan will do."

"I'll tell you what," Cook continued. "That was actually a welcome break amidst all the rehearsal for this week. That was a couple hours of fun short of having to jump off a coffee table on my knees forty times."

So does he have any words for Tom Cruise, who he aped for the commercial?

"Great choreography," Cook laughed. "It was actually really tough to learn, so my hats off to you man!"

luvssport and that young David A. wouldn't of been able to handle The Pressure Of Being The Winner Of "American Idol" so good point and Financial Pressure and his winnings and His Parents Managing His Money weather that would be a bad thing or not who knows but it just as well he didn't win especially him being so young and all!!! David Cook has more experience in

I love them both and i think that they both have a very good future ahead of them. I wish Archuleta would continue to strive because he's still young, I mean look at Jordin Sparks. For Cook, I wish him well on his career and good health for his brother.
