Oprah Winfrey may have been named the most influential woman in the world -- but she couldn't convince the director of
Doubt to give her a role.
On the Tuesday episode of her talk show, Winfrey told the movie's star
Meryl Streep -- who appeared via Skype -- that she asked to audition to play "Mrs. Miller" because she felt a connection to it and wanted to work with Streep.

But the director turned Winfrey down, she says, and gave the role to
Viola Davis -- who was later nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe.
