Olivia Munn reveals anxiety disorder: 'I rip out my eyelashes'

Peruse any of those "Hollywood's Sexiest Women" lists and it's likely you'll see the name Olivia Munn. A series of steamy photo shoots with lad mags including Maxim and Playboy helped put her on the map, and now her career is booming as she juggles two TV shows, "The Newsroom" and "The Daily Show," and two movies, "Magic Mike" and "The Babymakers," which opens this weekend. But behind the sexy, confident image Munn has created for herself is a woman who is filled with anxiety, which manifests itself in her eyelash-pulling habit, an impulse control disorder known as trichotillomania.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Munn opened up about suffering from anxiety. “I don’t bite my nails, but I rip out my eyelashes,” the 32-year-old revealed. “It doesn’t hurt, but it’s really annoying. Every time I run out of the house, I have to stop and pick up a whole set of fake eyelashes.”

The actress also has a difficult time in social situations, and shared a story with the newspaper about how she was attending a Memorial Day party, but stood outside the event because she was too scared to enter the soiree by herself. “I don’t think anyone would describe me as weak, but I don’t want people to be mean to me,” she said. “As an Air Force kid, I moved around a lot when I was younger and no one was nice to the new kid. So there is always this feeling that someone will make fun of me.”

Munn has previously spoken about her difficult upbringing and how it shaped her life. "I had a very abusive stepfather, so there was a lot of bad sh-t in my family," she told Vulture. "I found a picture of myself the day [my mom remarried]. Everybody else is all dressed up and smiling, and I’m just staring into the camera. It’s like I knew, This is not going to be good. I learned to have a good appearance on the outside, and then deep down inside just live with it … That experience made me very resilient. So right now there’s nobody holding me down, and I want to do everything I can."

And she appears to be doing everything she can when it comes to her career, which is booming. Her latest project is the movie "The Babymakers," which opens Friday. In the film – which co-stars Paul Schneider, Aisha Tyler, and Constance Zimmer – Munn is a woman so obsessed with having a child that she convinces her husband to break into a sperm bank.

In real life, Munn is not ready to have children of her own – and she may never be. "I definitely don’t have a baby urge right now,” she told the New York Daily News. “Having a baby is like losing your virginity; once you do it, you can’t take it back. That baby is forever." And her anxiety could keep her from ever becoming a parent. "It’s not that I’m too busy with my career or anything, but I have this huge fear of something happening to a child of mine. What if I’m not a good parent and my child turns out to be a jerk? Like I need more anxiety in my life."
