Ohio judge OKs sale of 'M.A.S.H' hot dog diner

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio hot dog eatery made famous on the TV series "M.A.S.H" is getting a new owner.

A judge has signed off on a deal transferring ownership of Tony Packo's Inc. to a private restaurant group in Toledo.

The decision was announced Monday. It comes days after the founder's grandson was charged with stealing from the family business, where he's poised to play a major role in the new ownership.

An attorney for the new owner says the accusations won't affect its plan.

One of the restaurant chain's owners opposed the sale after accusing family members of blocking him from financial records after he questioned them about spending.

Actor Jamie Farr made Packo's famous in the 1970s when he portrayed a homesick U.S. soldier in the Korean War who longed for its hot dogs.

Hope it stays alive in East Toledo. Even though I grew up in SoCal, my mother was from Toledo, and each summer on our way to vacation in Canada we'd have to hit Packo's on one of our couple days in Toledo.

I was at Packo's in November. Was up there for three days and went to Packo's twice the original on Front St and the one downtown by the ballpark. It would be a great loss to not have Packo's around. Talking to a few of the Packo family members it'll stay the same. The real issue the family member disputing the sale wanted to ruin Packo's by trying to make it a chain resturaunt. Expansion isn't always the best idea. Look at Uno's chain going under around the country. They closed 5 Uno's in Virginia alone.

Correction: Packo's is a chain in the Toledo area with 4 sattilite stores. The disgruntled family member wanted to take it elsewhere begining in Florida where he resides.
