Obama Girls To Raise The Woof With New White House Puppy

CHICAGO, Ill. -- President-elect Barack Obama is following through with a promise he made to daughters Malia and Sasha back in July during Access' exclusive Obama family interview with Maria Menounos. During his Election Night acceptance speech he told them, "I love you both so much, and you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House."

But Sasha and Malia will have to be patient about their puppy. The Obamas will not pick out a new First Puppy until spring, an Obama camp insider told Access Hollywood.

Due to Malia's allergies, the Obama family is said to be looking for a hypoallergenic-friendly puppy and the ever-cute mini Goldendoodle is reportedly at the head of the pack when it comes to their pooch pick.

The Obama daughters have a slew of possible hypoallergenic-friendly dog choices, but the staff here at AccessHollywood.com is partial to the Portuguese Water Dog, the Wheaton Terrier, the Havanese and the Labradoodle.

The Obamas could also follow in the more exotic footsteps of past Presidents. The Lincolns had goats. Theodore Roosevelt had a hyena, a badger and a snake.

Calvin Coolidge also enjoyed some wild fauna in the White House, owning a raccoon, a baby bear, a wallaby and lion cubs.

The Kennedys had every little kid's dream, a pony, along with a deer, a fluffy white dog, a pug and one very rambunctious terrier. Franklin Roosevelt also owned a terrier, named Falla.

Regardless of what breed the Obamas pick, hopefully the new puppy will be a little more reserved than the current First Dog, Barney the Scottish Terrier. Barney bit Reuters political reporter Jon Decker at the White House on Thursday morning!

Decker asked Barney's handler if it was OK to pet Barney, was told, "Yes," and when he did, Decker says Barney snapped and chomped down on his right index finger and broke the skin. Decker says his first reaction was, "That's not good."

Decker is said to be doing "fine" following the incident. The White House physician treated him on site, and although the bite punctured his skin, it did not require stitches. Dr. Richard Tubb prescribed him antibiotics as a precaution, and Decker was told to come back to the White House tomorrow to get a tetanus shot.

Decker still has a band-aid on his finger, and says he's doing fine, but says he's very disappointed by Barney. He says he loves the dog especially because his mother's dog, Fergus, is related to Barney - so now, he's doubly disappointed.

    It's a sad thing when stereotypes and racism still exist in today's world. Almost every president has had a dog, the Obama are no different. I'm sick of the young racist people that don't know enough about American history, but continue to judge and hate. I guess Obama will have to prove and earn your support. God Bless!
