AUGUSTA, Ga. -- After a fatal plane crash in Columbia, South Carolina, took the lives of four passengers and sent DJ AM and drummer Travis Barker to the hospital in critical condition late Friday night, their exes were left surprised and worried.

Nicole Richie, who was engaged to DJ AM (whose real name is Adam Michael Goldstein) from 2004-2005, "is in shock," a friend of the celebutante told Us Weekly.

"She wishes only the best for Adam and hopes he recovers from this," the source said. "She's horribly upset about the people who died."

Nicole's current boyfriend, rocker Joel Madden, sends his best wishes as well.

"[He] knows Travis and also feels terrible and hopes they recover. This is terrible news for both of them," the source said.

As for Travis' ex-wife, fellow reality show star Shanna Moakler, another source says she's on her way to see him now.

"Shanna is freaking and in panic mode right now," the source told Us.

And Moakler's family confirmed the trip to People, telling the mag that she had flown out on Saturday morning.

"There's still love between them," said Gail Moakler, Shanna's mom - and Travis' former mother-in-law. "They may be divorced, but they're still very close. She spends a lot of time with him. Their priorities are their kids."

The couple has two children, son Landon, 4, and daughter Alabama, 2. They were married from 2004 until earlier this year.

According to Gail, Shanna talked to Travis on Friday night following the accident.

"Shanna spoke to Travis last night," she said. "He was defiant after the accident and didn't want to be lifted in a helicopter, but rather an ambulance, so they had to knock him out."

The musicians are being treated at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia, Access has confirmed.

"Travis Barker and Adam Goldstein are in critical but stable condition," Beth Frits, spokesperson for the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, told Access.

The crash occurred when their Learjet overran the runway on takeoff, killing Charles Still, 25; Chris Baker, 29; and pilots Sarah Lemmon, 31, and James Bland, 52.

People get a life if you don't have anything nice to say at this time don't say a dman thing. You stupid ass comments about them are uncalled for. Four people have died and two were hurt very bad and their ex's are still their friends and care what happens to them. I am glad that Shanna is on her way to see Travis they have children together and still love each other. Get W

s_dude- it shouldn't matter how "popular" you are to envoke sympathy from people. You should be ashamed of acting like such a prick. People (humans just like you) were killed or injured, show a little respect

Some of you may not like them, have never heard of them, think they're stupid, etc., etc., but they're still humans with people who love them. Why are you bashing them? It's not like the plane crash was a publicity stunt. I hope for a speedy recovery for the injured, and I am terribly sorry for the families of the gone. =[[ [Weird how the most 'famous' li
