LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Jonas Brothers won't be attending this year's MTV Video Music Awards, but despite being the butt of several jokes by Russell Brand at last year's ceremony, they wish the British comedian well when he sets out to host the show again on September 13.
"We hope he has a good time this year," Nick Jonas, 16, told the BBC.

At the 2008 VMAs, Russell made headlines after he poked fun at the Jonas Brothers' purity rings, a symbol of their commitment to stay chaste until marriage.
While the comedian's comments made headlines - and riled up Jordin Sparks, who defended the brotherly ensemble when she took the stage later in the same ceremony -- Nick said they considered Russell using them in his comedy a strange sort of "compliment."

"As far as his comments were concerned, what we said from the beginning was that he seemed to run out of material," Nick said. "But if we're the butt of his jokes, it's kind of a compliment in a bizarre way."
Nick, who will be filming a "Camp Rock" sequel in Canada with his brothers, Joe, 20, and Kevin, 21, while the VMAs are going on, said he thinks Russell's return to the award's show is a good thing.
"It's great for him. He has form and ultimately he does a great job," the teen added.

In related Jonas Brothers news, Joe revealed that while on a recent tour stop in Brazil, the band was forced into doing a little damage control with a wedding party after their fans overran a hotel.
"While we were over on tour in Brazil, there was a wedding going on in the hotel we were staying at and there were fans everywhere, packing the place out," Joe said.
"I think the bride and the groom were a little unhappy with the fact there were so many screaming girls," he continued. "But we made sure to go and say congratulations and give them a little gift for the wedding, and apologize for all the craziness that was happening."
