The week is looking up for Kelis.

A day after welcoming a baby boy, the "Milkshake" singer, 29, was awarded nearly $44,000 in monthly support from her ex Nas at a hearing Thursday.

Kelis filed for divorce from the rapper in April while she was seven months pregnant.

Nas - who was not by her side when she welcomed son Knight in NYC Wednesday - had initially asked a court to deny Kelis any spousal support.

He then proposed paying Kelis a one-time payment of $20,000 until the judge could settle on an appropriate spousal and child support amount at a later hearing.

But on Thursday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Louis Meisinger rejected the offer, stating that new mom Kelis needed more money per month to accommodate her new lifestyle.

Contacted by Usmagazine.com Thursday, Kelis' rep said: "The beautiful baby boy and his mother are doing wonderful."

    before y'all start runnin off the cliff with the he wasnt there nonsense, he wasnt allow to be there for the birth. i had a feelin about the marriage going this route. divorced right after givin birth? man, that was planned. so now she gettin 84,000 a month cause her career suck and she suck. dont leeches suck too?

    Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing as echobunny, why is Nas so bitter? So either he's just a real ass or she drove him crazy. Either way though, it's really no excuse to feel like you don't have to take responsibility for a child you helped bring into the world. Glad to hear she won.
