The nominations are in for the 2012 Oscars. Which celeb is going home in tears and which celeb will win the movie award jackpot? We're not predicting anything quite yet but we're surprised (and happy) for many of our favorite celebrities. Let's take a look at the most surprising nominations of the 2012 Oscars.
Actress in a Leading Role - Rooney Mara "Girl With a Dragon Tattoo"
There are so many fabulous, talented actresses in this category so it's going to be tough deciding which celeb should get the award. We're surprised the Oscars nominated Rooney considering most of the time the academy ignores high budget action flicks. However, if you've seen Rooney in the movie you know just what this babe had to do in order to get into character. Rooney pierced her nipple, her lip, bleached her eyebrows, and got a funky haircut--and that was just for the audition! Will Rooney nab the award? We aren't sure. She has some steep competition including Michelle Williams and Viola Davis.
Actor in a Leading Role - Demian Bichir "A Better Life"
We were truly shocked and genuinely happy when we saw Demian's name on the list for Best Actor. He may be completely unknown to some of you but Demian truly gave a great performance in "A Better Life." He stars in the film as an immigrant father working hard and trying to do better for his son so they can have 'a better life.' The film has many heartbreaking moments that Demian shines in and proves just why he should be on the Oscars stage. We have a feeling the actor from "The Artist" will win but Demian should get this.
Actor in a Supporting Role - Max von Sydow "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"
Yes! After seeing this movie this past weekend we thought to ourselves, 'there are a lot of Oscar winning performances in this movie!' Although Max's character of the grandfather from the old country literally does not say one word in the movie, he absolutely deserves this award. Max is a veteran Hollywood actor who can bring an incredible amount of emotion into a scene just by his facial gestures. We really hope he wins this one.
Actress in a Supporting Role - Melissa McCarthy "Bridesmaids"
We've been major fans of Melissa's since she played the fun loving chef Sookie on "Gilmore Girls," so when she starred as the raunchy character in "Bridesmaids" we were rooting for this babe to get some recognition in Hollywood. Overall the Oscars snubbed this comedy in many categories so we hope Melissa takes this award home proving there is a place for raunchy, women's comedy in the film industry.
