Miranda Lambert on Chris Brown: "Beating Up a Woman Is Never OK"

Miranda Lambert on Chris Brown: "Beating Up a Woman Is Never OK"

Blake Shelton sure has a strong woman by his side!

At her concert in Amherst, Massachusetts Thursday, Miranda Lambert took the opportunity to speak her mind over the recent press Chris Brown has been receiving, that's been more positive when compared to the past three years.

PHOTOS: Rihanna and Chris Brown's controversial romance

"I just have to speak my mind, because where I come from, beating up on a woman is never OK. So that's why my daddy taught me early on in life how to use a shotgun," she told the cheering audience.

In 2009, Brown assaulted then-girlfriend Rihanna just before that year's Grammy Awards. He later pleaded guilty to felony charge and was sentenced to five years probation. (On Feb. 20, the pair released a collaboration for her song, "Birthday Cake," while rumors continued to swirl that they've been secretly hooking up.)

During her July 2011 Behind the Music special, Lambert, who married Shelton in 2011, revealed that her family took in battered women when she was a child. Seeing it all up close, she knows the pain of physical abuse.

So after Brown, 23, went home with a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album and performed twice at the 2012 Grammys Feb. 12, Lambert, 28, took to her Twitter to express her thoughts.

"Chris Brown twice? I don't get it. He beat on a girl...Not cool that we act like that didn't happen. He needs to listen to "Gunpowder and Lead" and be put back in his place. Not at the Grammys," she posted over multiple tweets.

A few days later, Brown responded, tweeting, "Using my name to get publicity? I love it! Perform your heart out! Go buy Miranda Lambert album! So motivational and 'PERFECT'!"

Did she get up and cheer for Glen Campbell the other night?? I bet she did.
If so, then I guess she picks which wife beaters she will support.

TheHammer you make a very good point.

Chris Brown is a joke of a man and Rihanna is a joke of a woman for going back to him. Both of them deserve to be shunned musically.

If it had been anyone else who beat a person that bad, they would have actually spent years in jail. Rihanna is a fool if she even thinks about going back with him. Once a beater, always a beater. Stay tuned.

Abuse of a woman, man or child isn't okay and according to society neither is stealing someone else's husband which is what Miranda did. She knew Blake was married and went for him anyways, she admitted it in an interview. I'm not without sin myself, but she sure isn't Lil Miss Innocent herself.
As for Rihanna, she's an adult it's her choice. For some reason I think the abuse worked both ways between her & Chris. Not a good combo.

Your argument is not a sound one for a few reasons. What Chris did is considered a 'felony'-felony assault; what Miranda did is considered a "Moral" wrong at best. Also, why blame Miranda honestly for Blake's marriage break up...if Blake's marriage had been a solid one, he NEVER would have gave Miranda the time of day...not to mention, it truly does 'take two to tango' so to speak. Now please do not misunderstand me, I am not for anyone interferring in someone's marital affairs, but it is not considered a crime unlike domestic abuse which is.

I agree with Sinnamonwolf. Its about judging others based on what they did. And Miranda is judging Chris and therefore she opened herself to judgement on what she did. Chris paid his dues to the court after what he did to Rianna. Miranda was not happy about Chris appearence at the Grammys. I am not comfortable about the Moral wrongs. Therefore; I may not be comfortable seeing Miranda perfoming at the Grammys. As much as I dont approve of domestic abuse I am also not comfortable with a moral crime. Like Sinnanwolf, I also not without sin, but who are we to say which sin is better than the other?

First off, not a HUGE fan of any of the parties involved. That being said, last I heard, the Grammys are given for artistic/musical talent-- not judgement of character. If that was the case, there are many people with Grammys that probably shouldn't have them. I think Chris Brown is artistically-talented-- great songs, great performances. Yes, he deserved the awards. And Miranda Lambert passing judgement, really? If we base this on character judement, maybe as a husband-stealing "lady" (for lack of better wording), she shouldn't have gotten any Grammys either, right? Hmmm, little country-girl, word to the wise-- think before opening your mouth.

Is she upset because of Brown's actions three years ago....or that he performed twice and won a grammy. Maybe she wanted it to be the country music awards show.....like most musical awards programs have become. If Rihanna has moved on.......maybe she should too. Never let a guy hit you , but sitting back in judgement always comes back to haunt.

Miranda Lambert was a tad out of line here. What he does has nothing to do with him winning a Grammy or him being able to perform. I agree he screwed up, but don't try to kick him back down when he's worked hard to build himself back up.

Where I come from, beating up on a woman OR a man is never ok. It's sad when people say that "beating a woman is not ok", implying that beating a man IS ok.
      • Debbie M 3 months ago
don't really think they are saying it's ok to beat up on a man, but it's generally a woman who is beaten and in this particular article it was a man who beat a woman, but you are right, it is never ok to beat on anyone, man, woman, child, animal, elderly, no one.

In her music video she says a woman should shoot and kill an abusive man. According to her the justice system should be ignored and people shoud kill each other. Thats why she is ignoring the fact that Chris Brown served his sentence and she continues to harass him.

Why is Miranda Lambert shooting her mouth off about Chris Brown? Nothing like making controversy for yourself. Stuff like this can ruin a persons career.
      • Got84You 3 months ago
Trying to sell records. I mean she has sunk so low to worry about what on between two kids, how sad.
      • Mrs.M 3 months ago
This kind of smack talking is not a good thing remember what happened to the Dixie Chicks when the lead singer mouthed out in public about George Bush? their career bombed afterwards. It's not a good thing to be doing when your career is based on fans smack talking people.

Miranda ought to mind her business. If Rihanna wants to go back to this abuser, that is her business. She is an adult and she can make her choice. I feel the same way that Miranda feels and I can give my opinion, but I am not famous and didn't go out in public in front of a crowd to voice it.
    • crusader of justice  •  3 months ago
According to Miranda where she comes from is not okay to beat on a woman but its okay to shoot and kill your abuser, and its okay to steal someone's husband like she did. Chris did his punishment and he needs to earn a living. I dont condone violence but to take a man's bread is also wrong. He cant be punished for the rest of his life. What if he was Joe the electrician? will you say he should not work and feed his kids because he beat on a girl 3 yeras ago?

Go Miranda! Miranda is a smart adorable strong woman with a good head on her shoulders and good advice for women!
    • Alice Oppenheimer  •  3 months ago
Please Miranda keep quite. You are the one condoning violence in your music videos. Beating on women is wrong, so is shooting on men.

well, the chick went back so she has now last the right to be a victim. And say what you want but he DID admit to it, took his punishment and didn't pull the rehab crap. and unlike lindsay lowlife - he hasn't been arrested again.

BUT he should never be allowed to be photographed without a shirt - that immature man is a mess
