Minnie Driver has kept very quiet about the identity of her three-year-old son's father is, up until now anyway. The 42-year-old actress gave birth to Henry Story Driver on September 5, 2008, and waited all these years to reveal her secret to the British magazine, The Observer.
The "Conviction" actress' baby daddy did not turn out to be a famous celebrity, or a married man, or anything else remotely scandalous. He was a writer on the now defunct television show "The Riches." Driver played the role of Dahlia Malloy in the series from 2007 to 2008.
The "Good Hill Hunting" star said she withheld the information to protect him and remarked, "I don't need to protect him anymore. He can fend for himself. He's a grown-up. We weren't together and he wasn't directly in the business, so I chose to protect him and not have a rain of publicity."
It's really a bit of an anti-climatic end to all of the questions surrounding the secrecy, but the good news is that Henry's father is becoming a little more involved in his child's life. When asked if he was a good father, Driver answered, " Sort of. He's figuring it out. I mean, he hasn't been that involved -- his choice. But he is now."
Perhaps the thought of being picked apart in the public eye for not being around to enjoy his son's early years was the prodding he needed.
Of course, the "Gross Pointe Blank" actress isn't the only celeb to have kept the identity of their baby's father a secret.
January Jones has yet to reveal her baby daddy. The "Mad Men" star gave birth to Xander Dane on September 13, 2011, and the birth certificate did not list her son's father. Of course, she could have used a sperm donor but it left the door open to a lot of speculation and innuendo.
Several men have been named as possibilities, including the soon-to-be-divorced Ashton Kutcher . A rumor was floating around that a married actor had a one-night-stand with one of his exes and got her pregnant. It's true that Jones and Kutcher dated for several years, but it doesn't seem likely that they'd reunite for a fling. Will we ever find out, and will anyone care by the time the secret is revealed?
On the opposite end of the spectrum, 51-year-old Hugh Grant became a father for the first time just last fall. The actor initially tried to keep the mother of secret, but we think that's a little harder to do than to keep the secret of a baby daddy. It wasn't long before the mother was exposed as Chinese actress Tinglan Hong.
Hong was hounded by the media and it was reported that photographers were making her life miserable. A judge granted the new mother an injunction "prohibiting harassment" on November 18. Hopefully both Long and her infant named Bamboo , for "Happy Accident," are living a little more peacefully now.
