LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- During Miley Cyrus' appearance on NBC's "Today" show Friday morning, the young starlet talked about her past mistakes, saying she's far from perfect.
"I always want to be known not necessarily like as this perfect girl...but as someone who is hopefully inspiring other people, that's what I want more than anything," Miley said. "I'm not here to say that I'm perfect because I'm far from that, as we all are."

The singer raised eyebrows earlier this month for her performance at the 2009 Teen Choice Award, where she danced around a pole during her performance of her new song, "Party In The USA."
"My mistakes are kind of a little bit harder because they are in front of millions and millions of people," she explained. "I get to go through that and I get to learn."

The 16-year-old admitted she has trouble coping with the stress of living in the spotlight, but said she tries to find the positive in it.
"It's hard to sometimes smile about it because half the time it does yeah suck, like having to go through that. It just makes me want to try harder the next time," she continued. "I know that little girls look at me and say I'm their hero, so that's really important."
And ultimately, the young star said she's just like the rest of us.

"Everyone has to make mistakes. And I think if a lot of people look back at them being a kid they're gonna realize they've done a lot of the same things that I have. I guess sometimes judgment is unfair," Miley said. "But that's just the way it rolls. That's the way the cookie crumbles my friends!"
Following Miley's pole dancing controversy, her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, told Access, "You know what? I just think that Miley loves entertaining people. She loves singing [and] songwriting. I always tell her to love what you're doing and stay focused for the love of the art and not worry so much about opinion."
