Since then, Basinger has acted in a variety of films and Rourke is experiencing a career resurgence with films like "The Wrestler" and "Iron Man." However, the pair didn't meet again until 2009 on the red carpet for their film "The Informers." Now they're back together again, filming the political thriller "Black November."
No word if they have any scenes together in "Black November", but we hope they have the same chemistry if they do.
The reunion of Rourke and Basinger got us thinking about other steamy pairs in film. Who else had memorable sex romps on screen?
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's chemistry on the set of the 2005 film "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" was so thick you could almost cut it with a knife. It surprised no one when the pair got together a short time later. Now, they have six children together and are planning a wedding. Pitt looks back fondly at meeting Jolie on set, calling it a "high point" in his career in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
Does that mean they'll work together again, though? In a perfect world, yes.
"We should be doing [movies] together. That's what we should be doing," he told EW. "We should be doing everything together, and then we could work less. We could have more time off."
The chemistry between Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio was so strong in "Titanic" that it was hard to believe they were anything but friends. But, that's all they were. The pair got back together in 2008's "Revolutionary Road" - and the chemistry was as strong as ever. So, is there ever a chance of a romantic relationship? Nope, they said.
"We have been a great support mechanism for each other. We both started when we were young and have always been great friends ever since Titanic. We have always been there for each other," DiCaprio told the Daily Mail, adding that their sex scenes weren't romantic. "It's natural and I feel completely comfortable. In a twisted way it's like kissing a family member."
That hasn't stopped gossip mongers from trying to make a relationship happen, though.
"Kate and Leo talk on the phone all the time, and she opens up to him about absolutely everything," a source told the U.K. Sun after Winslet's divorce from Sam Mendes in 2009. "I think her relationship with Leo has made things with Sam unfixable."
