LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Mel Gibson has become a father for the eighth time after his Russian girlfriend gave birth to a daughter, the actor's spokesman said on Monday.

"This will confirm that Oksana Grigorieva and Mel Gibson welcomed the arrival of a baby girl named Lucia on Friday, October 30, 2009 at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles," the spokesman said in a statement.

He declined to give any additional details.

Gibson, 53, has seven children with his first wife Robyn, who filed for divorce in April after 28 years of marriage. Grigorieva, 39, a pianist and songwriter, has a teenage son with former James Bond actor Timothy Dalton.

Gibson has said he and his wife split up three years ago and he met Grigorieva in 2008. Her debut album, "Beautiful Heartache," was released this year through Gibson's Icon Records label (http://www.oksana.fm).

    Babies are a gift from God. How they come about sometimes is not... Mel Gibson represented that good can come out of Hollywood, but he, like most of the others, decided drinking and driving, sleeping around and letting go of integrity was easier than doing the right thing.
