LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster are reuniting on the big screen - but the two stars will have to share their screen time with a beaver puppet.

According to Variety, Mel - who has a baby on the way with girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva - will star in the Jodie Foster-directed dramedy "The Beaver."

The 53-year-old actor has been cast "a depressed man who finds solace in wearing a beaver hand-puppet."

In addition to directing, Jodie will star as Mel's wife.

The duo co-starred in 1994's "Maverick" together.

The film is reportedly slated to begin filming in September in New York.

Mel's last big screen starring role came in 2002's "Signs."
