Matt Damon is celebrating another birthday on October 8. It might be hard to believe, but the superstar actor is turning 42 today. It has been 15 years since Matt broke through with his hit film "Good Will Hunting." Since then, a lot of has happened in his life. He has starred in several blockbuster films, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. He has also become a family man, a humanitarian, and an outspoken political pundit. Of course, he still remains on the short list of truly elite Hollywood actors. In honor of his birthday, here are a few interesting things that you might not know about the actor.
He's writing again
Since winning an Oscar for the "Good Will Hunting" screenplay, Matt hasn't written a major screenplay until now. He has a writing credit for the 2002 film "Gerry," but that is a largely improvised film. However, Matt is back in the writing habit with the upcoming film "Promised Land." This time, he has written the screenplay along with "The Office" star John Krasinski. The two will also star in the film, which is directed by "Good Will Hunting" director Gus Van Sant.
He's the spokesman for TD Ameritrade
This past January, Matt signed a deal to become the spokesman for brokerage firm TD Ameritrade. The company was seeking a boost to its brand, and the decision was made to replace Sam Waterston with "The Bourne Identity" actor. His first advertisements with the company have already aired, but he won't profit from them. At the time of the deal, Matt announced that he would donate all of his fees to charity.
He was in extra in "Field of Dreams"
Matt appeared in a few strong movies before "Good Will Hunting," but his most famous early one is one you might not expect. In this iconic baseball film that starred Kevin Costner, Matt appeared as an extra during the scene that was filmed at Fenway Park. Along with pal Ben Affleck, Matt is seen among the thousands of faces in the crowd during the scene. Neither star was credited for their work in the film, but this remains one of the more interesting trivia bits regarding their careers.
