Dog lover Martha Stewart whose beloved chow puppy Ghenghis Khan died in an explosion in March feels for Jessica Simpson, whose maltipoo Daisy was snatched by a coyote in L.A. earlier this week.

"It's pretty sad," Stewart, 68, told Usmagazine.com Wednesday at Us' 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers bash in NYC. "She should have watched it more closely, though. She should have been more careful."

Stewart said she met Daisy when she and Simpson, 29, filmed a Macy's commercial together a few years ago.

Her advice to the heartbroken singer?

"Get another dog," Stewart told Us. "I think it's very important to get another dog, someone else to love. You just have to find the dog that's the right match for you."

As of Wednesday, a dog-finding service, FindToto.com, had been making calls to some 1,000 of her neighbors asking if they'd spotted Daisy, who was given to Simpson by ex Nick Lachey five years ago.

Though she hasn't yet found the dog, Simpson is remaining optimistic.

"Still holding out hope despite the a--holes that say is it a dumb thing to do," she Twittered on Wednesday night. "Daisy is my baby ... why would I stop searching? I'm a mom."

She should have been more careful? Watched the dog more closely? If that's the case, then I guess she just should have never let her dog go outside EVER. Come on people, no matter how close of any eye you keep on anything, something bad could happen to it. How stupid are all of you that are blaming Jessica??? That was out of her hands.

Devasting loss...but, I have also felt responsible for a dog's death. Dog owners are responsible for their pets and when they are lost or are accident victims, it is because they were not kept safe..... and they are the victims....

Martha is right...Jessica should have kept a closer watch on Daisy. Jessica NEEDS a dose of reality! She has been living in La-La land for too long....she's on her way to being a train wreck like Britney and Lindsay. First mistake was letting Nick go, second was not watching her dog close enough. Grow up, Jessica, before you lose everything!!!

What were the circumstances that would have enabled a coyote to "snatch" her dog? I agree with Martha, make sure your pets are secure.

Loosing a pet IS like loosing a member of the family. A pet is an extension of your family. Whats wrong in hoping the dog will turn up somewhere safe: What is wrong is dwelling on this loss it so that your being has no other purpose. Get another pet Jessica, I'm sure you have room in your heart for another dog even if Daisy does turn up.
