Mark Wahlberg: I Would Have Been a Hero on 9/11 Plane

Mark Wahlberg: I Would Have Been a Hero on 9/11 Plane

Mark Wahlberg doesn't just play an action hero on the big screen -- he wants to be one in real life, too.

    PHOTOS: Patriotic celebs

In the February issue of Men's Journal, the 40-year-old actor reveals he was scheduled to be on one of the two planes that crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Had Wahlberg made his flight, the Contraband star predicts things would have turned out much differently.

    PHOTOS: Stars' good deeds

"If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn't have went down like it did," Wahlberg imagines. "There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, 'OK, we're going to land somewhere safely. Don't worry.'"

    PHOTOS: Celebs in Washington, D.C.

Still, Wahlberg has a soft side. He admits to crying "about six or seven times" while watching The Help, which was his wife Rhea Durham's pick. Wahlberg tells Men's Journal he lets Durham choose what they see on date nights, "as long as it isn't' a Sarah Jessica Parker movie."

He does realize that he's just an actor who pretends to be a hero, right?

Easy to say when you weren't actually there

The passengers were told to remain calm and they wouldn't be hurt. Considering previous hijacks were mostly about negotiations, Marky Mark would have had no idea what to do had he been one of the first planes to crash. Maybe if he were on a plane now though, he would make a difference.

he will soon be retracting his comments or saying they were taken out of context. Idiot.

There is no end to this #$%$s narcissism. What--the REAL heroes that went down with the plane, who tried to stop it, were inept, & that's why the plane went down? That's what his idiotic comment says to me. This isn't the F*****G MOVIES where you walk up & blow their heads off wahlberg! It was reality, they did ALL THEY COULD to stop it. You think they didn't care if they died, so that's why it turned out the way it did? You're an absolute arrogant idiot & you always will be. You just singlehandedly insulted the people on that plane who were murdered, as well as their families.

Keep flappn that yap there Mr Wahlberg and maybe someone will shove their fist down your throat and yank out your voicebox so the world doesn't have to listen to your idiotic yammerings. It's super easy to say you would stand up and take a stand against something horrible. However you would do what most people do and turn a blind eye and pretend it's not happening.

After that kind of a comment, everyone should boycott his career. He's a joke!

I like his movies and all but this is when actors should not speak. That was very very stupid to say why because he was not there. Anyone can say anything after the fact. If his family was on board and the standard procedure of most hijacking is to land and make your demand. these people didnt have the info or time to do anything. most people didnt even know what was going on before it was too late. As i always say actor and actresses should stick to what they know acting.

This bothers me...very much...he wouldve been gone just like everyone else...oh and btw...besides saying hello to your mom Mark...embrace your past.....so you were a rapper and a model....no reason to be embarassed about that....Its your roots...you seem to be getting mighty full of yourself....yet you still sound like MarkyMark and your acting chops are as deep as Keanus.....and this comment by you is insensitive to the families of everyone lost on that plane.......Ive never seen anyone soooo full of themselves in hollywood....geez....

Ok Mark, I'm now looking at you in a new way. Not a good way just a new one. As other post have mention, nothing like this had ever happened before, most hijacjings were taken care of with negotiations or the plane bein flown to a different country. Not into the side of buildings. So unless he's saying he 's a pychic too? I don't know that he would have thought jumping the guys would have been the best move for all aboard.

I think it IS a good statement, made in hindsight. The rest of the country should be more concerned with doing their part to prevent acts of terrorism, than offending muslims, minorities, or liberals.

Does this micro dick realise that real life bad guys are a lot different than the fantsies in the movies? He probably watched his movie Boogie Nights and thinks he is a stud in that department also.lmao

Now that Mark W. is friends with Manny Pacquiao (best pound for pound boxer on the planet) he all of a sudden thinks he is a tough guy. Ridiculous.

I think his Boogie Nights starring role has gone to his head too.

It was all make believe Mark............snap back to reality.

I'm sure the comment wasn't the focus when interviewed. He probably regrets saying it in light of it. It's an actor. Of course he has an ego. And how many have imagined themselves on one of those flights? He just said it out loud to the wrong person. Or I could be totally off and he really believes it! In that case, I'd like him to be on the flights I take!

Would the terrorists really be that scared of Markie Mark.......although he was a member of the Funky Bunch....so he must be tough.
    • G  •  4 months ago
And then "me" saying...."Ok, we're gonna land somewhere safely"..."Don't worry"...So, It's all about "ME" saying....Hmmm, I think Marky Mark will soon be worrying about the backlash of his statement....You can't compare you're career to real life dude...Get off your high horse and have some compassion. Everyone's a great monday night quarterback, but this is just sad...

Wow, ignorant AND insensitive. I guess he doesn't realize that he's implying that the passengers of those planes were more cowardly than himself. I'm sure we all wish he could've been on the plane.

Who the hell is Mark Wahlberg, he is a hero in his own mind if you ask me, and of course you didn't ask me, but my opinion counts to me.

Get over yourself! No one know's unless you are actually in a horrific situation, how they'll respond. Maybe it's time to do a comedy.
