Bad news for all the ladies hoping to be Bradley Cooper's plus-one for this year's Academy Awards. The position has been filled. And no, the 38-year-old is not taking his on-screen romantic interest Jennifer Lawrence.
Even though the two Oscar nominees both conveniently became single shortly before the awards season started for their new film "Silver Linings Playbook," the two Hollywood heartthrobs are not dating. When pushed for details at the Golden Globes about the rumored relationship, Coop firmly denied any budding love affair. "Oh my God. That's very funny," the "He's Just Not into You" actor exclaimed, before adding "no, no, no, no, no. Not even close. First of all, I could be her father. No, I'm kidding. But no, not even close."
Instead, the former People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive will be escorting his mother Gloria down the red carpet at Hollywood's big night on Sunday, February 24. "Oh yeah, that was done," the "Limitless" actor informed E! News. "One night, when I started the profession, [my mom said], 'If you ever [get nominated], I am the date,'" he explained.
However, "The Hangover" star will not be the first Sexiest Man Alive to win big points in the adorable category for taking their mother to the big awards ceremony.
Just a few months after being named Sexiest Man Alive in late 2003, the "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" actor was seen walking arm-in-arm with his mother, Betty Sue Palmer, into the Kodak Theater for the 76th Annual Academy Awards. Even though the "Alice in Wonderland" star is one of an elite few to ever repeat on the prestigious People magazine list, his mother didn't make the return trip to Hollywood when the actor was later recognized for his role in "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."
Matt Damon & Ben Affleck
It's hard to believe Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were two little-known aspiring young actors when they took home their first Academy Awards for "Good Will Hunting" in 1998. Attending the ceremony with their respective mothers must have melted the hearts of the editors at People, because Affleck took home their top honor in 2002 and Damon followed suit in 2007.
While the twice nominated actor has always left the awards ceremony empty-handed, his 2004 Oscars entrance with his mother Maggie must have made an impression. The "Alfie" star was crowned the first British Sexiest Man Alive the following fall.
Another two-time recipient of the coveted Sexiest Man Alive accolade made the awards ceremony a family affair in 2012 -- taking both his longtime partner Angelina Jolie and his two parents, Jane and Bill Pitt. However, the warm gesture went unrecognized by the Academy. His production "Moneyball" struck out -- coming away empty-handed in each of its six nominated categories.
