Parents in search of a family-friendly weekend activity found it in Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.
The animated tale -- which features the voices of Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith and David Schwimmer -- raked in an estimated $60 million this weekend, putting it well ahead of the weekend's second place earner, Prometheus.

The R-rated, sci-fi thriller starring Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba brought in $50 million during its opening weekend.
Theron's other big blockbuster, Snow White and the Huntsman (which also stars Kristen Stewart), made a solid showing in its second weekend on big screens, coming in third with $23 million in earnings.
Rounding out the weekend's top five films were Men in Black, which placed fourth with $13.5 million, and The Avengers, which brought in $10.8 million.
