As Hollywood stars from around the world descended on Beverly Hills for the start of awards season -- including the People's Choice Awards, Critics' Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, all held the week of January 6-13 in 2013 -- there were so many celebrations it was almost impossible to attend them all. But there were some elite events that celebs made certain to make time for: those luxury gifting lounges and beauty bars that pop up during every big awards weekend!
HBO cleverly did their annual "HBO Luxury Lounge featuring L'Oreal Paris and Motorola" at the Four Seasons Hotel, where many of the HBO Globes' nominees were staying. So it was an easy stroll to the suites (it takes up most of the second floor) for stars like Sarah Paulson ("Game Change"), Steve Buscemi ("Boardwalk Empire"), Jeff Daniels ("The Newsroom") and Toby Jones ("The Girl"), where they scooped up Pandora charm bracelets, Nautica sweaters, those L'Oreal and Motorola goodies and one of the best scores of any of the weekend's suites, the TiVo Premiere 4 machine and TiVo Stream, along with service for life. That should make it easy for them to record all their own shows!
Also making the scene at the HBO lounge and taking home Boiron homeopathic remedies and Staples gift certificates were "True Blood" favorites Janina Gavankar, Lauren Bowles and Chris Bower; "Treme" star Wendell Pierce; "Game of Thrones" evil hottie Nikolaj Coster-Waldau; as well as stars of other networks and movies, including Archie Panjabi (nominated for her work in "The Good Wife"), Jason Isaacs, Laurie Holden, Karina Smirnoff, Tempestt Bledsoe and Francois Cluzet of "The Intouchables" fame.
Just down the street at L'Ermitage Beverly Hills Hotel, the GBK Gift Lounge was in full swing, taking over the penthouse top floor as well as two large suites down below. Host Gavin Keilly pulled out all the stops, as celebs from Golden Globe-nominated films like "Argo" star Titus Welliver, "Moonrise Kingdom" quirky kid Jared Gilman and "Lincoln" thespian David Costabile scooped up seriously cool Toy State James Bond 007 remote-control cars, Smartsilk bedding, Egard handmade watches, Jose Eber super-fast infrared blow dryers, custom-made BeachCandy Swimwear by BritB and Organic Skincare's famed Heaven Bee Venom Mask. Guests like Thandie Newton and Mayim Bialik sipped on Newman's Own wines and nibbled on delicious California Caviar fish eggs and Sabra hummus, but saved The Real Juice for a three-day cleanse (most likely starting right after awards season concludes!).
Then it was on to Rodeo Drive and the Luxe Hotel, where the DPA Gifting Suite commandeered the sunny rooftop. There nominees like Don Cheadle of "House of Lies" (who went on to win his second Golden Globe on Sunday) and Dennis Quaid from the new TV hit "Vegas" sipped on Herzog Wine Cellars' luscious Special Reserve Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon while checking out the St. Regis Hotel's generous gifting of stays at both their Bora Bora and Princeville (in Kauai) resorts and selecting hip reversible jeans from Bleulab. Berenice Bejo, Armie Hammer and "Downton Abbey" mama Elizabeth McGovern checked out the numerous Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island artisans, and left with Ancient Treasures' polished petrified wood jewelry and a gift trip to that famed Canadian island.
A bit further away at the SLS Hotel, Secret Room Events Red Carpet Style Lounge hosted everyone from Ali Fedotowsky of "The Bachelorette" to Aldis Hodge of "Leverage" fame; they and other famous faces were treated to Betty Boop-branded goodies, evening dresses with body shapewear sewn right in by NUE by Shani, Lita Sea Glass jewelry, adorable Born4Couture ruffly dresses for little girls and Swisse vitamins and supplements to keep the grownups going through the swirl of parties.
Stars that were willing even made the long journey out to the W Hollywood Hotel, where Kari Feinstein's Style Lounge featured free trips to the Turks and Caicos Seven Stars Resort, as well as stays at both the Epic Hotel and Surfcomber in Miami. Jeff Daniels, Jamie Pressly, Lacey Chabert and Jason Lewis benefited from taking that trek, as did the Sierra Club, as that lounge (like many of the others) gave back a bit, with donations to that fine organization.
Finally, before the big night of the Globes, celebrities simply had to get pretty with some pampering. Some, like the Willis girls (Rumer, Tallulah and Scout), hit the Colgate Optic White Beauty Bar at the Nine Zero One Salon in WeHo, to get manicures and spray tans, have their nails and hair done and to take home some top-of-the-line Joico Hair Care products, Schick razors, Koolaburra shoes and Mavi jeans.
And for those stars -- like Toby Jones, for example -- who wanted to stay all cozy at the Four Seasons Hotel, InStyle magazine brought their Beauty Lounge to the garden of that posh place. There everyone from Jones to Victoria's Secret supermodel Barbara Palvin to "Shameless" star Shanola Hampton and Karina Smirnoff had their nails done by OPI, eyebrows shaped by Woodley & Bunny and makeup touched up by L'Oreal, then headed off with cutting-edge compression pantyhose by Donna Karan Hosiery. We're not sure Toby Jones went for those, but since this is Hollywood, one never knows, do one?
