Lance Armstrong broke his right collarbone after falling during the first stage of a five-day race in Spain Monday,
CNN reports.
After being treated at the Rio Carrion hospital in Palencia, he emerged from the hospital with his arm in a sling.
"I'm miserable," said the seven-time Tour de France champion, 37. "I just need to relax a couple of days and then make a plan."
On Monday afternoon, he wrote on Twitter: "I'm alive! Broken clavicle (right). Hurts like hell for now. Surgery in a couple of days. Thanks for all the well wishes."
He will return to the United States to meet with doctors about surgery.
