Lady Gaga Courts Controversy with Weed, Weight Gain, and What She Wears

Lady Gaga will probably be accused of imitating Madonna after some of her recent antics - just like Madge, Mama Monster has seemingly taken to courting controversy to draw attention to herself.

But while the Material Girl favors guns, breast-baring, and swastika symbols, Gaga has gone a slightly different route. Here's a rundown of Gaga's recent scandals:

The "Drunk Diet"

Gaga cause a controversy by simply gaining a little weight. The singer has reportedly packed on 30 pounds, prompting The Sun to dub her "Porker Face." It might seem extremely mean-spirited to poke fun at a woman's weight, but Radar Online has tried to legitimize criticism of Gaga's fuller figure by blaming it on alcohol abuse.

Back in 2011 Gaga claimed that she was on the "drunk diet," which she said consists of whiskey and working out. A nutritionist told Radar that this unhealthy behavior is probably behind the singer's weight gain -- or perhaps Gaga has packed on the pounds because she's constantly suffering from the munchies.

Making Pot Part of her Performance

While performing at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, Gaga smoked a joint that was tossed on the stage by a fan. She then proceeded to gush about how great marijuana is by saying, "I want you to know it has totally changed my life and I've really cut down on drinking. It has been a totally spiritual experience for me with my music." So forget the drunk diet - she's on the pot plan. Hopefully Kelly Osbourne's claim that Gaga has gained weight because she's pregnant proves to be untrue.

Gaga was later criticized by a British rehabilitation charity for glamorizing drug use. The Chief Executive of Blenheim CDP told the Daily Mail this about her glorification of ganja: "The predominant drug we are dealing with in our treatment centers for people under 25-years-old is cannabis so it's particularly unhelpful when things like this happen." And it doesn't matter how wondrous Mama Monster thinks weed is -- It's still illegal where most of her little monsters live.

Wearing Beasts and Burkas

A representative of several Muslim groups recently accused Gaga of insulting Islam by pairing a burka with a purse emblazoned with a profanity. It's a little odd that Mama Monster wore something offensive to her Muslim fans since she recently sympathized with them by saying that she is "extremely upset" by the anti-Muslim movie trailer that has sparked violent protests around the world.

Lady Gaga's recent fashion choices have also upset animal rights activists. Because she has been sporting a lot of fur fashions lately, PETA is allegedly planning to attack Mama Monster by "spraying her with paint or even throwing feces at her." So she might want to trade her fur coat for a plastic parka that can easily be wiped off.

Based on how much buzz her behavior is getting, maybe Mama Monster can actually teach Madonna a thing or two about courting controversy.
