Penelope isn't that unusual of a name - there's actress Penelope Cruz, and "30 Rock" star Tina Fey has a daughter named Penelope. So it's the Scotland portion of the baby girl's name that's so mysterious. It could be a way for Kourt to pay tribute to her family's Scottish roots - after all, the Kardashians have kind of neglected that part of their past while playing up their Armenian ancestry. Let's just hope that "Scotland" isn't some zany way for Kourtney to include "Scott" in her daughter's name.
But while Scotland might be unusual, celebrities seem to be big fans of baby names inspired by places, and there quite a few celeb kids named after other countries.
Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger named their daughter after one of Scotland's neighboring countries. Ireland Baldwin was once labeled a "rude, thoughtless little pig" by her temperamental father, but now the stunning 16-year-old and the "30 Rock" actor seem to be getting along much better.
Mel Gibson is another father known for having angry outbursts, but the "Mad Max" star didn't let his bad temper or his ugly custody battle with Oksana Grigorieva stop him from celebrating his 56th birthday with their daughter Lucia back in January. The 2-year-old, who is Mel's eighth child, might be named after the Caribbean island nation Saint Lucia. Actress Mira Sorvino also gave birth to a baby girl named Lucia back in May.
Just like Mel, boxer Mike Tyson is an eight-time father, and he's also a fan of baby names inspired by places. "The Hangover" star is working hard to rehabilitate his image with his own Vegas show, and he's also trying to be a good father to his two youngest kids with wife Lakiha - 3-year-old daughter Milan is named after a city, while 1-year-old son Morocco shares his name with the country where the movie "Casablanca" took place. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon also have a son named Moroccan -- his name was inspired by the Moroccan Room in Mariah and Nick's apartment where the couple got engaged.
Mariah's fellow songstress Alicia Keys might be famous for singing about her love of NYC, but she showed her deep feelings for the land of the pharaohs by naming her son Egypt in 2010. The singer chose the name after sailing the Nile during a "powerful" trip to the country in 2006.
But actor Chris Hemsworth didn't credit a trip to India for why he picked the name of the country for his daughter earlier this year. During an interview with E! News, here's what he had to say about how he and wife Elsa Pataky chose baby names: "It was just a name we liked. I always kind of liked Indie or Indiana for a boy, and she liked India. We sort of went, 'Oh well, whether it's a boy or girl, that will decide.' It just seemed to fit."
So do you like any of these celebrity baby names inspired by countries? And do you think that Penelope Scotland Disick is an adorable moniker or a kooky Kardashian creation?
