After parting ways with the Jenny Craig Company, actress Kirstie Alley has announced she is launching her own weight loss program.

The former "Cheers" star will head up her own program, expected to launch in 2009, according to a statement she released to People.

"I guess it's as good of a time as any to announce that I intend to develop and pilot my own weight-loss brand that I hope to launch in 2009," Alley said in the statement. "I want to create something new that will help millions of people end the seemingly never ending fatty-roller coaster ride. I am especially passionate about seeing to it that our next generations are not struggling with the same weight issues that my generation has struggled with."

News that Alley had split with Jenny Craig, a program she was the face for, for several years, emerged last week. The parting however was amicable according to Alley.

"After lengthy negotiations, regretfully, the Jenny Craig Company and I did not come to an agreement to continue as their spokesperson," Alley said. "My relationship with the Jenny Craig Company was nothing short of extraordinary. The people I worked with at Jenny were first rate. The program spoke for itself as the world watched me lose 75 pounds."

Alley, who said she became an "accidental" role model for millions of those working on weight loss, said she believes the remaining Jenny Craig spokespeople will help out others with their goals.

"I have no doubt that Valerie Bertinelli and Queen Latifah, along with the excellent products in the J.C. program, will steer the ship to continuing success," Alley said. "I personally wish them the same excellent results and amazing adventures that I experienced as the J.C. spokesperson."

  • I think that is great that you lost 75 pounds and now are creating a program to help woman do the same. I wish I could have the funds to be in your program, but unfortunately I am on disability income and cannot afford things like that I have spent my life very overweight and in a state of depression over it, but I love to see the success of those woman who do have the strength to do it.

I was in the grocery store not long ago, a woman came up to me and told me her daughter lost 60 pounds eating Lean Cousine. She said she just hunted for when they were on sale and would buy a bunch of them. She would eat a low calorie breakfast and then have LC for lunch and dinner. When she would run out she would just try to eat right and then purchse more when on sale.

I'm fat. I'm not wealthy. As soon as I go broke, the pounds will magically fall off. That is when I can't afford to eat anymore. Seriously though, Weight Watchers is way less expensive and my friends have had great success with it. As for me, I just have to have willpower not to eat for comfort. Exercise helps greatly. I have 50lbs more to loose to reach my goal, but stress

Kirstie - I would love to see a tv program aiming at women mostly in their 40's + that deals with weight loss and excercise and nutrition...also include diabetics. You could even have celebs give their weight loss secrets and advise. Whatever you do, I know you will do it well. Thanks for all your efforts.
