Broadcasting & Cable and TMZ report, according to multiple sources close to the situation, that the former NFL star is expected to be announced as Ripa's new cohost. Strahan, 40, is reportedly in negotiations, and The Los Angeles Times reports he'll still keep his job as host of Fox NFL Sunday if he takes the job.
On Monday, ABC confirmed that Ripa, 41, will reveal Regis Philbin's long-awaited permanent replacement will on Tuesday, September 4 with the kickoff for the new season of the daytime show.
Since Philbin, 80, left the show in November 2011, a rotation of guest co-hosts -- including Nick Lachey, Josh Groban, Jerry O'Connell, Seth Meyers and Ripa's husband Mark Consuelos -- have filled in.
Earlier this month, Ripa told Us Weekly that Cooper would be a great fit for the job. "We have a connection like nobody else," she told Us. "I worship him!"
