Happy 47th birthday, Keanu Reeves! On September 2, 1964 Keanu Reeves turns 47. Take a look back at why we love Keanu! Keanu Reeves is in the same club as Jennifer Aniston, almost. Both have a critically questionable movie resume, yet both are tops with fans. Reeves was not taken seriously thanks to his near robotic performance in "Much Ado About Nothing" (which later came in handy for "Johnny Mnemonic") and his jokey character Ted.
Some serious roles gained him more respect, including the role of Scott Favor in Van Sant's "My Own Private Idaho." He clinched his place in movie history with one of the greatest movie characters of all time, Neo in "The Matrix" movies. Enjoy this birthday tribute of Keanu Reeves' greatest hits.
Le Chevalier Raphael Danceny
Keanu played the naive pawn Le Chevalier Raphael Danceny in "Dangerous Liaisons" (1988). Reeves plays a poor music teacher, used as pawn in the game of love and revenge by the Marquise de Merteuil (Glenn Close) and the Vicomte de Valmont (John Malkovich). Reeves also gets to show off his sword skills in this film. The combination of love and combat sets him up nicely for his later role as Neo.
Nobody does cluelessly sexy like Mr. Reeves. As Jonathan Harker, the hapless solicitor who visits the castle of Count Dracula only to be seduced into a darker world, the actor is irresistible. He allows himself to be seduced by the count mentally and his brides physically.
Officer Jack Traven
If Keanu did not capture your attention before, "Speed" probably did. The pairing of Reeves with Sandara Bullock (also born in 1964) was pure genius. The pair made an exciting on-screen couple and catapulted Reeves into leading man/hunky movie star status.
While he may not be the most believable movie doctor to hit the big screen, he sure did fit the role of cougar bait. During "Something's Gotta Give" How many of us were trying to kick Diane Keaton's leg under the table when she looked more lovingly at Jack Nicholson than at poor lovesick Keanu?
You had me shaved-headed Keanu, nude in a tube, matrix. It's hard to imagine anyone else commanding the role of Neo in "The Matrix" movies. Even better was the actor in his tall black boots, flowing trenchoat, high black collar and mysterious sunglasses. It's hard to imagine anyone else in this role. Even Severus Snape picked up fashion tips from "The One." Nobody's laughing at you now, Keanu.
