Katie, you’re ensuring that your daughter Suri is protected through your divorce with Tom Cruise by pushing for a speedy settlement — good for you!
One day after Katie Holmes met with her divorce lawyer Allan Mayefsky in NYC on July 6, news spread that Tom Cruise and Katie’s lawyers are currently negotiating a settlement in their divorce and child custody battle over daughter Suri Cruise! And it seems like Katie is winning — hooray!
When Katie, 33, filed for divorce from Tom, 50, on June 28, I believed there would be a long drawn out divorce and custody battle, but based on recent reports, it seems a settlement is on the horizon!
According to reports, Katie filed in New York City in hopes of gaining sole and legal custody of 6-year-old Suri! New York City courts are more likely to award sole custody to a parent, where as California is more prone to award joint custody. Katie has kept up appearances in New York City for the past year, aiding her case of proving residency, as she was allegedly planning to leave Tom for two years!
A public hearing is scheduled for July 17 in New York City, but according to a previous report, if negotiating goes well, the hearing may not even take place!
All of Katie’s actions up to this point — filing for divorce in New York City, requesting an emergent hearing, and maintaining a physical presence in New York City — has clearly helped her in this divorce battle! It also doesn’t hurt that Katie’s lawyer is known to be a pitbull!
I can’t wait to see the end result, but I have a good feeling Katie will come out on top!
