The media has been buzzing all weekend in light of Katie Holmes recently filing for divorce from her husband of 5 and a half years, Tom Cruise. The 33 year-old raven haired actress cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for filing but has stated she wants to keep details of the matter private. The "Rock of Ages" star is also requesting the divorce proceedings move forward privately but is dejected by his wife's decision. Holmes is seeking full custody of her daughter Suri, along with child support. A prenuptial agreement was reportedly drawn up when the couple wed back in 2006 but it may not effect the amount of child support Holmes is seeking.
With so many celebs filing for divorce this year, it makes people wonder if there is any hope for Hollywood couples at all.
Martin Lawrence and Shamicka Gibbs
Last April, the former "Bad Boys" star and stand up comedian filed for divorce from Shamicka Gibbs, citing "irreconcilable differences". The couple had only been married for two years but had been dating long before they wed in July 2010, when Gibbs took Lawrence's last name. The couple had two children during their courtship, aged 9 and 11, whom Martin is seeking joint custody of.
Eddie Griffin and Nia Rivers
This "Malcom and Eddie" star filed for divorce jointly with his wife, citing "irreconcilable differences" after only a month of marriage. This was Griffin's third marriage, which was finalized just a few months ago. Griffin and Rivers had a son before they tied the knot last fall, the brief marriage ended amicably as Griffin agreed to joint custody and to pay monthly child support for his son.
Heidi Klum and Seal
For this couple to hit Splitsville was a shock for everyone as they were well known for holding lavish parties and renewing their vows every year since they wed in 2004. In January, the couple made a statement to US Weekly announcing they were going through a trial separation but Klum officially filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences" three months later. The "Project Runway" star was married to the soul singer for seven years and had four children together, whom Klum is seeking primary custody of.
Mena Suvari and Simone Sestito
After only 18 months of marriage, this "American Reunion" star filed for divorce from concert promoter Simone Sestito back in January. Suvari cited "irreconcilable differences" when she filed, which is seemingly the default reason for most celebrity couples calling the quits. The couple reportedly did not have a prenuptial agreement and Suvari refused Sestito any kind of spousal support. Sestito was nearly seven years Suvari's junior and the couple did not have any children together.
