Kate Middleton Chooses Her Charities: Other Celebrities that Have Chosen to Be Hands on With Their Charities

    Kate Middleton in 2008.

Kate Middleton has a big role to fill as the Duchess of Cambridge and as Princess Catherine, the wife of Prince William. One of those duties is to be directly involved in her favorite charities that she chooses to work with and support. After careful consideration among hundreds of requests, the newly married Duchess has chosen some that are close to her heart. The soon-to-be 30 year old princess has a special interest in children as seen in many photos with kids since she has married into the royal family. So it is not a surprise that she chose a couple of charities with them in mind. One is called The Art Room that uses art therapy to help children with many issues and another is The East Anglia's Children's Hospice that Kate paid a visit to recently and was touched by the families there. She also chose Action on Addiction and The National Portrait Gallery along with the Scout Association. Who knew that this fairy tale princess used to be a Brownie in her younger years? Kate wants to be directly involved in these organizations just like Princess Diana was with hers, which is not surprising.

What other celebrities are hands on with issues close to their heart? These are just a handful of high profile people that not only give their money but also give of their time directly to their charities.

    Marlo Thomas

Long time actress, Marlo Thomas is well known for her long running series, "That Girl" but now days, she is most known as the face of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Her actor father, Danny Thomas founded the organization and she continued his legacy after he passed away. The cute girl in the short mini skirts from back in the 60's has done so much for kids fighting cancer from raising money to getting many celebrities involved like Jennifer Aniston and George Lopez. It's a great cause!

    The Jonas Brothers

Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas are some of the nicest young people in Hollywood. They each have their own charity close to their hearts. The Jonas family even started their own foundation called Change for the Children that helps to support each charity. With having diabetes himself, Nick is involved with Diabetes Awareness while the oldest Jo Bro, Kevin has taken on volunteerism which encourages young people to get involved. The guy in the middle, Joe Jonas has taken a special interest in the Special Olympics Program and has been involved with the IWin Fun Run and meeting special kids.

    Selena Gomez

The "Wizards of Waverly Place" star, Selena Gomez is the youngest ambassador that UNICEF has ever had and she is doing a darn good job of educating her fans about this organization and getting them involved as well. She uses her celebrity status for a great cause.

    Jon Bon Jovi

Just this year, the "Livin' on a Prayer" rocker, Jon Bon Jovi opened up a restaurant called Soul Kitchen in New Jersey. As a way of addressing the issue of hunger, patrons either pay a minimum of $10 as a donation for the meal or they can volunteer their services. Either way, everyone wins. This guy has a big heart and has proven that he is more than just a rock star.

What other celebrities can you think of that has given their time and energy to their favorite organizations?

To Yahoo Contributor Kim Brandow: Please consult the latest edition of the Associated Press Style Guide and the official Web site of the British Monarchy before writing another article like this. First off, the former Catherine--who asked to be referred to as "Catherine," not "Kate"--Middleton is NOT "Princess Catherine." Her style is Her Royal Highness, Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge. It will not be correct to refer to her as "Princess Catherine" until such time as her husband succeeds his father as the Prince of Wales. Second, it is bad form to continue to refer to her as "Kate Middleton." Do you read examples of America's first lady referred to as "Michelle Robinson" in place of her married name? I would love to see a little more professionalism exercised by those who style themselves "writers."
