You've just lost your job, and you have eight young kids to support. What's your first move?
Most of us would probably search the classifieds for jobs or take a class to sharpen or job-hunting skills. But then again, most of us are "mediocre," as former reality star Kate Gosselin would say.
Jon Gosselin has 'mediocre' job
Kate revealed an opinion that may not endear her to fans when she commented in People magazine: "Jon may be acceptive of mediocre for his kids. I want the best for my kids."
Jon Gosselin is currently working in construction, certainly not bringing in the income of a doctor or a lawyer, but is it fair to blast his employment as "mediocre?"
The mom of eight thinks so. She repeated the charge on the Today show, telling host Matt Lauer "It' a situation where Jon may be accepting of mediocre for his kids and working a regular job. I want the best for my kids and the best opportunities not unlike every parent. To be a good parent is to work as hard as you can and give them the best opportunities in life, and this has provided that."
Kate Gosselin: only the best for me (and the kids)
With "Kate Plus Eight" now canceled, Gosselin needs a way to pay her bills - stat. She has a huge mortgage to pay, tuition fees for her kids, nannies and other helpers to pay (including long-time bodyguard Steve Neild, whom many have suspected of having a closer relationship with Kate), and a lavish lifestyle that will be hard to maintain, especially on no income.
Kate has no desire to return to nursing, the field she worked in prior to having kids. She noted the long days (and low pay) that a "mediocre" nursing job would entail, and she set her sights higher. Kate wants to continue with a career in TV, although it's not clear what form that might take. Sure, she brought in ratings as a reality show star, but does Gosselin have the skills - or temperament - needed to make it in TV?
Fans feeling 'mediocre'
Meanwhile, Kate's fans - many of whom have "mediocre" jobs themselves - are feeling dissed.
"So according to @Kateplusmy8 people that are not in tv are just mediocre!!!" tweeted a fan.
Kate quickly veered into damage control mode, tweeting back " not what I meant.. I meant this job is not a career acc 2 jon but tv is and is hard but will prov best opps 4 my kids vs nursing!"
What do you think? Is a career in TV "hard?" Do Gosselin's kids deserve the best?
