Last night, the BET Awards rocked Los Angeles. It was the 12th year for the entertainment awards show presented by Black Entertainment Television. The show took place at the Shrine Auditorium and was broadcast live nationally. It was a night of musical hits, fun fashion misses and tear-filled moments.
The audience and stage were filled with all of the usual crew. Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and his wife Beyonce, Chris Brown and Kanye West seemed to be audience faves. In addition Willow Smith was there, rocking Chanel combat boots, "Scandal" star Kerry Washington wore a flesh-colored Spanx-like bustier, rapper Common attended in all-white and singer D'Angelo finally made his long-awaited comeback. All in all, it was a better show than in years past.
So what were this year's most memorable moments?
Whitney Houston's heartbroken mother presented a tribute to the late superstar. For those not in the know, Ms. Cissy is a gospel music star in her own right. It's been almost five months since the entertainment industry, the world and the Houston family lost the troubled singer.
Mariah Carey kicked off the emotional tribute with a heartfelt speech. Monica, Brandy and Whitney's brother Gary all sang in remembrance of their love for their late sister. Then it was time for seventy-eight year old Mrs. Houston to bring the house down. Cissy sang "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Chaka Khan closed the tribute with a performance of "I'm Every Woman."
How is Ms. Kardashian a memorable moment at the BET Awards of all places?! Well, KK was there to accompany her boyfriend Kanye. The two wore matching white fashion looks. Her knee-length dress was backless. Fans even wondered whether there was a KimYe baby in the oven because Kim turned down a champagne moment. Although she is a Midori liquor campaign spokesperson the reality TV megastar has stated often that she's not really a drinker.
Tongues were wagging about whether Jay-Z snubbed Kimmie when he embraced Kanye and Beyonce after a win leaving the Dash girl momentarily out in the cold. Hov also playfully spoofed his "Watch the Throne" partner Ye's famous Taylor Swift "I'ma let you finish" MTV Awards gaffe.
It looks like fans are siding with Rihanna's ex Chris in the recent Drake vs. CB nightclub incident. Team Breezy must have been in the house because popular rapper Drake was actually booed at the awards show. We guess that the public must have forgiven bad boy Brown for his violent past.
Were you watching the BET Awards? What did you think of the show?
