Could it be a mere bump in the road?
The recent break up of pop superstars Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez may have us crying a river, but it could be temporary.
While an insider confirmed the couple's breakup to E! News late last week ("Because of their crazy schedules, it was getting harder and harder to maintain a relationship," the source said), Bieber has neither confirmed nor denied the split.
On Saturday he told the Open House Party radio show: "I don't know what to say. I don't know if … you even know what's going on in my life, so to even assess that doesn't make any sense, because I've not made any comments."
Although they are young (Bieber is 18, while Gomez is 20), the couple appeared to have some staying power. During happier times, Bieber surprised his lady love when he rented out the Staples Center for a romantic steak and pasta dinner and private screening of the movie, "Titanic."
In a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey he told the talk show host, "I never make [Selena] separate from me, 'cause I don't want her to ever feel like I'm ashamed of her." He added, "We get away, we're getting away together."
Selena even made the cut of Bieber's duet single, "Beauty and a Beat," when Nicki Minaj rapped, "I gotta keep an eye out for Selena." (She rhymed the pop princess's name with "weiner," but it's the thought that counts!)
Meanwhile, rumors are swirling about Bieber's new friendship with Victoria's Secret model Barbara Palvin. Selena Gomez tellingly tweeted a photo of Justin and pal Lil Twist with a Palvin lurking in the background, but the 19-year-old Hungarian model tweeted, "Hey everyone. please calm down. he is all yours!! :) please :)"
Palvin later added: "last time im saying it. please calm down. there is nothing going on w him. i met him and did a pic w him. wouldnt u do the same?:) #friendship"
While Bieber and Gomez's split has got shades of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears written all over it (the Biebs even crooned Timberlake's Britney breakup anthem, "Cry me a River" at a show in Boston over the weekend), the duo apparently met up at Gomez's hotel in New York city on Sunday night. Gomez was in town to attend Glamour magazine's Woman of the year awards, while Bieber had a show across the East River at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Monday night.
So don't go crying that river just yet. According to Us Weekly, breakups are old hat for this power couple. An insider told Us: "They are [young] . . . it changes from day to day. Right now it is a break and tomorrow it could be back on knowing them . . . it's hard to say how they will end up."
