Justin Bieber Goes Vegan for a Day: Other Celebs Who Are Full-Time Vegans

    Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber decided to go vegan for a day, but it didn't exactly turn out the way he planned. Turns out going on a plant-based diet turned the pop star into a huge "jerk," according to girlfriend Selena Gomez.

"She [Selena] had encouraged the health kick but told him to drop it. She said that being vegan turned Justin into a jerk," a source told Star magazine.

The breaking point came when he went out for Mexican food with Gomez and friends.

"Justin ordered a tofu steak and tempeh tacos from Real Food Daily in L.A. and was really grossed out. He made a big show of spitting out the food and making gagging noises," the source continued, adding that he was always in a bad mood on the diet. "Soon everyone was begging him to just eat a steak!"

So, maybe the 18-year-old isn't ready for a vegan diet, but these celebrities have made it into a way of life.

    Lea Michele

"Glee" star Lea Michele is vocal about her support for animal rights, so its only natural that she opted for a vegan diet. However, she said she goes "back and forth "between being a vegan and a vegetarian.

"Everything with being vegan and vegetarian is a really big commitment. You have to do what you feel is best and what you believe in and what your body is telling you that it needs," she told Shape magazine in August. "I really think everyone should do what's best for them, and what's best for me may not be best for someone else. But like I said, you just have to do what makes you feel good."

    Alicia Silverstone

"Clueless" actress Alicia Silverstone is probably more known these days for her animal-friendly lifestyle than her acting career. The mom of toddler Bear Blu even runs a website dedicated to her lifestyle called, The Kind Life.

In fact, Silverstone credits her meat-free life for giving her more energy.

"I used to have all those white marks on my nails and they were very brittle, and now they're so strong I cannot bend them," she told Oprah.com. "My eyes got really white, and I feel like I look less puffy."

However, her turning point came when she got her dog.

"I just took a look at my dog and said, 'If I'm not willing to eat you, how can I continue to eat these other creatures that have the same desire to live, are just as funny, just as cute as my dogs?'" she added.

    Ellen Degeneres

Talk show host Ellen Degeneres is a dedicated vegan, but she admits it's not always easy to stick to the lifestyle.

"Someone mentioned 'If you knew what chicken looked like or you knew how chicken was made, you'd never eat it again,'" she told the Associated Press. "Something snapped."

She does admit that being a vegan is easier since she and wife Portia De Rossi have a personal chef. At least she admits it.
