"Dancing With the Stars" alum Julianne Hough has revealed that she was abused both mentally and physically when she was a child dancer in London. The two-time mirror ball winner-- who moved to London as a child without her parents to study dance-- told Cosmopolitan magazine that she was sexualized at age 10 and that things got worse as she hit puberty.
"I was told if I ever went back to the United States, three things were going to happen. One: I was going to amount to nothing. Two: I was going to work at Whataburger. And three: I was going to end up a slut. So, it was like, I can't go back. I have to be this person," she told the magazine.
While Hough didn't disclose further details and has since moved on ("I'm a very forgiving person, and I don't want to hurt anybody. What's past is past," she said), the usually happy-go-lucky dancer's accusations have fans stunned.
Hough is not the first "DWTS" alum to come forward about past abuse.
Pro dancer Cheryl Burke has been vocal about her abusive relationships, and detailed her abusive past in her 2011 memoir, "Dancing Lessons." During an appearance on "Ellen," she told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that when she was molested as a child by a family friend. As for her bad boyfriend picks, Burke said, "I went through a couple of abusive relationships during my high school career and I think it just stems from my childhood. "
After she was molested, Burke said she had no self-confidence. "I didn't know what to do," she said. "So I fell for these men who were unavailable to me. The abuse was something I felt like I deserved and I continued go back to that."
"Dancing With the Stars" alum Maria Menounos (she was partnered with Julianne's brother Derek Hough in Season 14) revealed that she was molested on two occasions by two different doctors. The "Extra" host dropped the bombshell during a visit to Howard Stern's radio show, in which she explained that her boyfriend now joins her in the exam room for every type of doctor appointment-- no matter what.
And in the book, "I'll Scream later," season 6 "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Marlee Matlin wrote about the childhood abuse she endured at the hands of a babysitter, and later by a teacher. According to ABC News, it was Matlin's turn on the "Dancing with the Stars" dance floor that inspired her to write about her troubled past.
