LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 25, 2007) - A month after Britney Spears was charged with two misdemeanor counts over a hit-and-run incident in a Studio City parking lot, the singer was relieved of one of the counts.

Spears was not present in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom as a judge waived one count of hit-and-run causing property damage because the singer and the woman whose car she hit had reached a "civil compromise."
Last month, the LA City Attorney's Office filed charges against Spears for the hit-and-run and for driving without a valid California driver's license.
The counts stemmed from an incident in August, when Spears hit a vehicle owned by Kim Rifkin while pulling into a parking space.

Spears was captured by paparazzi video footage, leaving the scene, without appearing to make any attempt to contact the owner of the vehicle she hit.
On October 15, Spears turned herself into authorities and was booked on the charges. She settled the matter with Rifkin privately.
Though Spears has since obtained a valid driver's license for the state of California, the judge made no ruling on the second charge of driving without a valid driver's license. The case on the second charge was continued and a new court date was set for November 26. She has been ordered to appear in court at that time.
The second count carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
