LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- A host of stars including the Jonas Brothers, Josh Groban , Foo Fighters, Michael Buble and "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi stepped out in Los Angeles on Friday night for the Grammys MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony, honoring Neil Diamond .

"I'm not used to this kind of thing so I'm just kind of feeling my way through," Neil told Access Hollywood on the red carpet before heading into the event. "It's very exciting...I thought they made a mistake, but I guess they didn't because everybody showed up."

Neil was honored by a host of artists, many of which performed songs from his extended catalog of music, including rocker Chris Cornell, who tackled "Kentucky Woman," and Groban who took on "Play Me."

"Not only is it a great night to celebrate Neil and his music, and music in general, but also a way to get a lot of attention for what MusiCares really means, which is artists helping artists and people in the music industry giving back to those that have come before them and those that need our help," Groban said of the event. "And it is an amazing thing to become a part of."

Also thrilled by the event was Jason Mraz and his beaming mother.

"It's taking me back," Mama Mraz told Access Hollywood, before revealing her Grammy-nominated son, "probably listened to [Neil] in the womb."

And the accolades weren't lost on Neil, who said he felt honored the stars themselves were so eager to play his music.

"It evidently touches people and that's a good thing and that's what I want," he said. "I want to be able to reach out, touch people, make them feel good. Touch places inside of them that they don't usually get in contact with. That's my goal."
