NEW YORK, New York -- As "Jon & Kate Plus 8" gets ready to take the air one final time on Monday night, Jon Gosselin said he's looking ahead to the future - and life on his own in the Big Apple.

"New York is nice. It's three hours from my house where my kids are," Jon said in his final confessional on the TLC show, which airs as part of Monday night's series finale. "Which means, it's like... I have work again. Although I live there, it's not like I'm at my house and work is at my house and everything is just crashing down, you know what I mean? I couldn't leave. Now, it's like I have a place to go."

And while he's leaving behind the family home in Wernersville, Penn., where the reality series was shot, Jon said he can always return to his roots and "chill."

"When I get sick of the city and all the press and the media and everything, I cross the [George Washington Bridge] and go back to my country place and I'm going to chill," he added. "So I've got the best of both worlds right now."

For Kate, in her final confessional interview for the show, she said she's still getting used to life without her estranged husband.

"It always crosses my mind that I should be in the passenger's seat and Jon should be driving. Every single time," she told the cameras, referring to driving her brood around.

"To clarify, I never wanted that to change. Maybe I wanted roles to change and people to step up and stress loads to shift," she continued. "But I never wanted him absent from that driver's seat."

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, last week TLC announced plans for a series spin-off, "Kate Plus 8," were no longer in the works.

"'Kate Plus 8' is not in production," TLC spokeswoman Laurie Goldberg told Access.

However, that doesn't mean the reality mom is hanging up her reality TV hat.
"We are focusing on the launch of Kate's new series in early spring," Goldberg added.

Monday night's series finale will feature both Jon and Kate taking their eight kids - 9-year-old twins and 5-year-old sextuplets - on separate outings.

While dad brings his brood to a fire station near the family home, Kate takes the kids to a local dairy farm.

Over the weekend, the reality parents met for an arbitration session in Pennsylvania to discuss custody and financial matters.

And while the meeting was described as "successful," the same couldn't be said for Jon's gift for his estranged wife.

Jon showed up to the hearing with a bouquet of red roses for his ex.

However, a source confirmed to Access that the roses never touched Kate's hands, "but the receptionist had a beautiful bouquet to take home for the day."

    If I remember right, Kate was-is-and always will be a Media Whore. The End is near...soon they will fade into obscurity. Until the kids one by one start acting up and getting into the news for DUI, Alchol, Drugs, Parties andPregnancies. Then Kate will start doing talkshows about how her kids are out of control.

    Finally...TLC has the good sense to pull the plug on this trainwreck. I just feel really bad for the kids. Hopefully, they and their parents will be able move on and everyone can find a little happiness in private.

    Well said Dav-Ron...Jon admitted that Kate was made to look like a bitc$...Jon was a lot more subtle when he was being nasty towards Kate and TLC knew they were on to something after all WE tuned in every week for 5 yrs...And on a brighter note..Kate has made Barbara Walters top 10 list for most interesting people...Way to go Kate...

    It takes 2 to make / break a marriage. When I hear people cut into Kate for her bossiness on tape, I have to ask - do you not realize that filming only took place a few hours a few days per week? No one but Jon & Kate know what all was coming down when the cameras weren't rolling. Sounds like they both have regrets. Sounds like they both still have love for each other, too. I

    Pat, you are absolutely right. Another thing is she belittled Jon in front of the children. It does not matter what problem you have with the child's other parent, you never put that person down in front of the child. That child usually remembers and later when they learn the truth, they end up turning on the one that did the trashing. It is low down anyway to insult the father of her chil

    Why is it in so many (not all mind you) relationships that fail, the guy get's to be the irresponsible party? Once again I know there are many women who leave their families too. I think after Jon gets off whatever drugs he's on he'll be sorry someday. Kate was nagging and %@!*#y at times but, who wouldn't be! With 8 kids and a husband that wasn't much

    Well it is just about time that Kate should start to grow up! She has ordered Jon around ever since their show started. There are not a lot of men who would have stayed with her as long as Jon has. She talked to Jon like he was a puppy dog and not her husband and the father of her 8 kids. If she ever gets interested in another man-he better take a look at the way she treated him. The poor kids

    I am also sad to see the show go. I've enjoyed watching the kids grow up. They are very sweet and seem so friendly. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Kate because she seems to be trying to change for the better. She is a lot more patient and sweet with the kids than Jon is with the kids. I know it must be killing her to see him acting like an 18yr old ass with a hard on.
