The singer persuaded dozens of ladies to leave red lipstick marks on his face and T-shirt during a boys' night out at MyHouse nightclub in L.A., Usmagazine.com confirms.

After Mayer, 31, and pals -- including his brother, Carl -- dined at Katsuya, he "thought it would be funny" to go to a very "Hollywood" club, a source tells Us.
"He literally asked the driver what the hot spot was and he took them to MyHouse," the source says.
While dancing to M.I.A. and Montell Jordan, Mayer asked a group of women to help him play a trick on the paparazzi outside.
In fact, he even posted his prank plans on Twitter.

"Trying to procure as many red lipstick kisses on my face as I can. Trying to gag photogs and make a joke," he wrote that night.
Less than an hour later, at 1:52 a.m., he wrote that he had finished soliciting kisses.
"Okay, check it. Just spent the last hour getting the reddest lipstick on me for a gag. When you see the pics of me leaving the club covered in kisses, it's all a gag."

Despite the effort, Mayer might not have thought it through in the end.
"John was kind of annoyed with himself that he ruined his shirt, which he had bought in Japan and loved," the source tells Us.

Still, he alluded on his Twitter page that his night out with the boys was a success.
"Have fun," he wrote. "Smile at the things that worry you. Play good music. Laugh. Live your life!"
