Jim Carrey made a surprising guest appearance on the NBC comedy "30 Rock" on February 23. In the episode the actor spoofed a lot of his old comedy roles by appearing in a movie within the show. The fictional yarn deals with the Leap Day holiday and Carrey has the lead role. There wasn't a lot of buzz about his appearance which made it that much better. The award winning sitcom has had a number of great guest stars in the past and Carrey's is right up there with them. Here are some other stars that did some great turns on "30 Rock."
Jerry Seinfeld
Since the sitcom that bears his named ended more than a decade ago we don't get to see too much of the iconic comedian. When he does appear on a show it is a real treat. He appeared in the second season of "30 Rock" as himself. Jack hatches a plan to digitally insert Seinfeld into a number of NBC shows. This upsets the comedian and he visits the building to confront Jack. While there he has some uncomfortable encounters with Kenneth and imparts some dating advice to Liz. It was a nice throwback to the classic "Seinfeld" humor.
James Franco
Franco did a great job spoofing himself in an episode in which he does damage control on his movie career. In the episode he enlists the help of Jenna to form a fake relationship to please the press. This is done so that he can cover up his romance with a body pillow. It was definitely a goofy plot but the actor did a great job of poking fun at the industry.
Robert De Niro
The Oscar winning actor had a brief cameo as himself but he hit it out the park. After Jack devises a plan to tape a disaster relief special before a disaster happens, he enlists De Niro to introduce the program. The accomplished actor reads off a list of potential disasters that would likely never take place. As an added bonus we get to see him use a bad British accent. It was a great couple of minutes of television.
Matthew Broderick
This was the best Broderick performance since his role as Ferris Bueller. The name of his character on "30 Rock" alone made it worth watching. He played Cooter Burger, a government employee that seems to be a wits end. He is excited at the prospect of getting pens for the office and views Jack as the savior. The actor came off like a young child and it worked brilliantly.
