Jillian Michaels Adopting Haitian Child: I Fell 'In Love With This Little Girl'

Jillian Michaels stops by Access Hollywood Live on December 2, 2011 -- Access Hollywood

Jillian Michaels' dream of becoming a mom is inching closer to reality.

The super trainer - who, back in February, revealed she was leaving her post on NBC's "The Biggest Loser" to focus on adding to her family through adoption - says she's been paired up with a child, and the only thing standing in her way is paperwork and a trip stateside her future little one.

"I've been matched with a little girl," Jillian excitedly revealed to Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Friday's Access Hollywood Live. "But, I now have to get her home... It could take up to a year to get her home."

Jillian, 37, met the girl she is hoping to adopt on a trip to Haiti.

"I went over to visit orphanages and I ended up falling in love with this little girl, and by the grace of God, I got matched up with her," she said. "So now, it's just a matter of trying to get her home and anything can happen and fall through or fall apart, so it's kind of premature for me to say it, but that's where it's at.

"So if it falls apart, you'll know why I'm like, devastated and not coming out of my house for months," she added.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, during a visit to Access Hollywood Live in back in April, the tough-talking trainer said she was making "huge progress" in her quest to adopt, although the anticipation was taking a toll on her body.

"I'm actually so excited," Jillian told Billy and Kit, when asked about the status of her adoption. "The government shut down almost, [and] all I could think about was my 600A [immigration adoption] form! I was like, 'Oh my God, I've developed an eye twitch!'

"I called my business partner and was like, 'My eye is spontaneously twitching,'" she continued. "But then, fortunately, I just got my immigration paper. So now I'm this much closer and all the paperwork is done. It just needs to go to the various embassies -- it's a godsend."

Ok I grew up in an orphanage and I wished I had been adopted. My point to the ignorance is that do you really think I would have cared what the person was like where they were from ect ect nope I just wanted love . Any child adopted is a child loved regardess of the origin of it's adoptee parents so if they do not mind why should you!!

Some people are so miserable in their that they would even complain about a person opening their home to a defenseless child. Its not as easy as you think to get an American child under two years old. It took Sandra Bullock five years to get a baby American child and thats with millions of dollars in resources. If you're so supportive of American adoption then get off the blogs and start the process.

Such cinical comments from such ignorant people.. Haiti has one of the highest orphan rates in the world. Helping a child, NO MATTER WHERE FROM, a little angel from God, is a wonderful thing. Yes, they could adopt an American child, but that's not the point.. The point is, a CHILD is going to get everything in the world and love and affection.. PERIOD.. God bless all the little children in the world who don't have mommies.. Whether they are black, white, from china, or africa, whatever.. They need love too...

You are not an American! Americans come first.

It's time to quit supporting these countries with oppressive leaders and start putting the USA and Americans FIRST..........
      • NEO 5 months ago
America first. There is enough children here that need adoption and love.

While international adoption has serious issues, corruption being one of them, until you understand how flawed the American foster care / domestic adoption program is, no one here should condemn those who choose not to adopt domestically. To all you nay sayers, how many American children have YOU adopted or helped?
      • Rhythm 5 months ago
helped yes adopted no. But if I was going to adopt a child the US is where I would put all my focus.

        THOUSANDS... HOW ABOUT YOU????
    • Ms Karen  •  5 months ago
I hope it works out for her and the little girl. As has already been mentioned, American adoptions are harder. Plus the people who are talking about that an adoption should be done out of love, it's not love to deny a child in a struggling country (and yes, I know there are children struggling here too) just so people in this country will think better of you.

Does she know you don't have to use the word "like" in every sentence?
    • Sandra  •  5 months ago
I wish more americans would fall in love with the LITTLE children here in the USA. NO its not cynical or ignorant, all children need to be loved and adopted... but lets start at home first . then move on out soon all kids can have a home . YES it is the point , just like our goverment. we take care of everyone OUTSIDE our country, the roads, schools , housing and let ours go to hell.

I totally agree with you Sandra. It is completely rediculous! Like its a cool thing to adopt a baby from another country when we have more than we should have here that need a good home. It is very un American to collect millions of dollars here and then instead of take care of your own, go adopt in a third world country. I think it says alot about these people.

My husband and I are in the process of adopting a six year old girl from China. We started the process with the intention of adopting a waiting child in our state. What we found is that it is extremely difficult to adopt here. The child welfare agencies in the US really need to be overhauled. BTW, have you adopted here in the US? If not, you are not doing any more for these children than anyone else.

a lot of ugly comments here. so interesting. instead of being happy that this woman adopted a BABY (color not important) you are all harping about it being black, about it being non american. a lot of hate in the world.
      • B 5 months ago
It's not "hate",you are just brainwashed......
      • Rhythm 5 months ago
Not hate. Just thinking people need to take care of home (the USA) first.
      • MJ 5 months ago
Not hate, but how about the few million children HERE in the USA that need a home, either white, black, latino, asian etc.????

My sister and her husband adopted twin girls from Vietnam 14 years ago. They wanted to adopt an older child but found that by the time they are put up for adoption in the U.S. they have usually be abused or neglected by the parents or they have been through the foster care system and have a myriad of behavioural problems. Since they had four other children at home they didn't feel it would be fair to them to bring a child into their family who would be disruptive to their lives. That was only one of the reasons. They just wanted to give a parentless child a chance at a good life. Before you start judging people why not ask them why they adopted internationally before you form your opinion. The reasons aren't ususally so black and white as you might think.

Doesn't matter......buy American and adopt American or get out!
      • Me 5 months ago
They wanted a newborn so they went to a country in which newborns are immediate. It had nothing to do with anything else. In the US newborns are rare and the time it takes to adopt one is years. Don't tell me they did what they did for stupid behavioral problems. That is #$%$ They went to another country for expedience.

Wow, where were your friends looking to adopt? A city orphanage? I was adopted in America- my mother was 17 when she had me- put me up for adoption through Catholic Social Services. I was 2 weeks old when my parents got me. It just takes time.....I would say adopt in the U.S. before going outside the U.S. to help our own. You cannot simply assume that all children who need parents in the U.S. will be "disruptive" of people's lives.
Talk about black and white, Lynn!
    • Leslie  •  5 months ago
@ Kade that statement is probably one of the dumbest things ive heard in a LONG time!!! wow
    • Angel  •  5 months ago
You people need to look at the quality of life in American orphanages vs foreign countries! American kids get to go to school, eat regularly and get free healthcare. These kids in foreign countries are starving and dying because of a lack of clean water and adequate healthcare. If you haven't adopted an American child yourself then you should keep your hypocritical comments to yourself.

Congrats and I hope everything goes well. Lucky little girl. She would have no chance of a good life in most areas of Haiti.
    • Tiffany J  •  5 months ago
Congrats Ms. Jillian, there are so many children EVERYWHERE that needs a good family. No matter where they come from. People on here are so mean. have any of you that are being stupid ever tried to adopt or be a foster child in the US? People should get knowledge of doing this in the US before you open your mouth. Not as easy as people think. I was a foster parent in Florida and moved to Georgia but could not become a foster parent in Georgia. How stupid.

Hey #$%$ there are no Amer. kids that need a HOME???????????????????
    • Bill  •  5 months ago
This in a way is sad we have so many kids here in the US that would love to have a home.

why not adpot in the US...
    • J R  •  5 months ago
People that are saying you should adopt American kids, have probably never tried! our system is so crooked it's not funny! it's so awful. After trying to adopt a foster child, the system removed the child from our home, saying the child is getting too attached to our family! they then put the child into another foster home! they don't care about children. It is all about the social workers. Having seen first hand how our system here in America is, I say good for you, whoever goes out of country! at least they can save some children.

How about sterilization for women in Haiti after their 1st child so they don't sit there in poverty and repeat the cycle OVER & OVER & OVER & OVER. I am sick of being guilted into feeling bad for someone who has 8 kids. I have NO kids because I can't afford one.
