Jessica Simpson seemed like she was pregnant with li'l Maxwell forever. Nick Lachey's ex wife and her fiance Eric Johnson kept the public informed during every step of her mommy incubation. Who could forget her amusing pregnancy announcement last Halloween? The curvy singer tweeted a picture of herself in a mummy costume to confirm her pregnancy.
It's been quite a year for Weight Watchers' newest spokesperson. In addition to starting a family, Jess was a mentor on NBC's "Fashion Star" competition along with her fellow designers, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos. Yes, Jessie has come a long way from her MTV days when she famously asked whether Chicken of the Sea was chicken or tuna.
This week Ms. Maxwell Drew Johnson made her international debut. Jess and her sweet sleeping baby girl are on the cover of People Magazine. The cover story includes a photo album of Maxi's greatest moments during her month on the planet.
Detractors take note, Ms. Simpson has a brand new life. She says, "From how I sleep to what I think about, Maxwell has definitely taken over everything!" Maxwell was born on May 1st via C-section. Jessica is taking a page from the Beyonce book on child rearing to breastfeed her baby. She explains, "It's the worst if I have to pump and give Eric a bottle to give her. I miss holding her and having that closeness."
The official celeb baby reveal is a big moment for new moms and dads in Hollywood. After all, this is when the genetically gifted present their offspring for their first public moments. Jessica's magazine cover approach is standard fare. In 2008, first photos of Knox and Vivienne Jolie-Pitt are said to have fetched $12 million to $14 million for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. That buys a lot of diapers. But this certainly isn't the first baby debut -- check out how other celebs introduced their offspring.
With parents like Beyonce and Jay-Z, Blue Ivy is destined to be a superstar. As Bey's pregnancy was marred with "is she or isn't she" controversy, the public was eager to get a glance at Blue. The notoriously private couple took the baby's debut into their own hands with social media. The first photos of Bey and Jay's daughter appeared on Jay-Z's blog, Life + Times and on a new Tumblr blog entitled "Hello Blue Ivy Carter."
Mariah and Nick Cannon also used social media to introduce their twins. A big magazine cover used to be the only way to debut a celeb baby but not any more. Mariah and Nick set up a fun website called DemBabies.com. They post everything from baby smiles to baby parties. It's a "Dem Babies" world. We're just living in it.
So, what do you think? Is Jessica's little cutie pie all you thought she would be?
Who has had the best celeb baby debut?
Do you like the name Maxwell for a baby girl?
