There's a method behind Jessica Simpson's Maxwell. The pop singer's newborn baby daughter has already been the subject of tabloid fodder, most notably for her unusual, unisex name.
According to Us Weekly, Simpson and fiancé Eric Johnson named their daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson, by combining Johnson's middle name (Maxwell) and Simpson's mother's maiden name (Drew.) The result is a double-masculine moniker, which is getting mixed reviews from fans.
Still, little Maxwell Drew is far from the first precious princess to have a boyish name.

Fans didn't know what to make of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's daughter's name when she was born in 2006. According to Us, Angelina's brother, James Haven, was originally named Shiloh but his parents changed his name at the last minute. Shiloh's middle name, Nouvel, is in honor of Brad's favorite French architect, Jean Nouvel. The five-year old recently made headlines when it was revealed that she wants to change her name to "Shax" to be more like her brothers Maddox, Pax and Knox.
In 2007, "Talk" co-host Sara Gilbert gave her daughter the unisex name Sawyer. The former "Roseanne" star has a penchant for unique names -- she also has a son named Levi.
Bailey DeLuca Baio
Charles was in charge with this one! Actor Scott Baio waited until he was well into his 40s to become married with children, so he had plenty of time to think of baby names. Daughter Bailey's 2007 birth was even shown on Baio's VH1 reality show "Scott Baio is 46 and Pregnant." The child's Italian middle name is Baio's mother's maiden name. Just be thankful he didn't name her Chachi!
Rowan Francis and Grier Hammond Henchy
"Pretty Baby" actress Brooke Shields has two pretty babies of her own - and she gave them very masculine names. Daughters Rowan Francis and Grier Hammond were born in 2003 and 2006. Of her younger daughter's unusual name, Shields told People, "It's so hokey, but I woke up in the middle of the night just thinking of the name. I don't know anyone named Grier. The next day I'd forgotten it, but that night I woke up again at 3 a.m. thinking of the name."
Lou Sulola Samuel
In 2009, "Project Runway" star Heidi Klum and her pop-singing spouse, Seal, welcomed daughter Lou Sulola Samuel. Baby name expert Linda Rosenkrantz told Us, "Although Lou has always been used as a short name for Louise and Louella, it has rarely been heard as a full first name for a girl."
The daughter of George Stephanopoulos and Ali Wentworth has a masculine first name, but the child's middle name is the ultra feminine Anastasia.

Ali told People the middle initial is in honor of Conway's late grandmother Jurldine.
